A huge congratulations goes out to our members ITD Industries Inc. and Nikola Corporation for launching Canada’s first operational 700 bar commercial fueling station for Class 8 hydrogen trucks. CHA President and CEO Ivette Vera-Perez and CHA Hydrogen Ontario Executive Director Maike Althaus were pleased to be in attendance at the inauguration ceremony in the presence of Hon. Doug Ford, Premiere of Ontario, Hon. Sam Oosterhoff, Associate Minister of Energy and Intensive Industries and many other provincial and federal dignitaries and industry leaders. Alberta’s hydrogen highway! ⛽︎ Air Products announced its plans for a network of hydrogen fueling stations along Alberta’s busiest transportation corridor—coining the Edmonton-Calgary highway QEII as a “hydrogen highway.” This announcement, brought by Eric Guter, will provide critical fueling infrastructure needed support the growing demand for hydrogen in Western Canada’s commercial transportation sector, starting in the Edmonton region. The event, co-organised by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership and the European Commission, builds on the successful work of the Clean Hydrogen JU. This involves the collaboration with the regions and cities including project development assistance and funding of already 15 hydrogen valleys across Europe. This groundwork sets the stage for the launch of an EU roadmap for Hydrogen Valleys and related facility. The agenda will include discussions with policy makers including local authorities as well as project developers, investors and industry suppliers looking at shaping up such local hydrogen ecosystems and thus implementing the strategic REPowerEU’s objective of doubling the number of Hydrogen Valleys in the European Union by 2025.

While we work through the major hub announcements that will play a pivotal role in the vast scale up of hydrogen throughout the United States many companies are working towards pushing through new projects in states that weren’t selected. Time for a hydrogen economy/transportation system in the new west=BC/AB/SK/MB fueled by natural gas and using the philosophy energy innovator Rodney Allam has advocated in these two recent uses of natural gas for cleaner than coal energy-NET Power for emission free electricity and 8RH2 for producing hydrogen/ammonia from natural gas. Eliminate the emissions in the use of oil and gas, not the oil and gas industry itself! Itstead of Ballard fuel cells or diesel powered trains replace them with Cummins hydrogen engines for a New West clean energy rail system!

The growth is fueled by increasing demand for hydrogen in applications like fuel-cell electric vehicles, rockets, and aircraft. Adoption is expanding in various sectors, including heavy-duty EV trucks in China, the steel industry, commercial airplanes, and hydrogen trains in Germany.
