CAR SYMPOSIUM
It is the premier event for the 'future of mobility'. Back in 2018, I attended the Car Symposium at the Beijing Autoshow. Since then, the impact of China on the industry has surged, sparking significant discussions at the recent forum in Bochum.
VW: In China for China
Stefan Mecha presented the company's new China strategy. For young Chinese consumers, the in-car experience is paramount. Digital cockpits, voice recognition, and AI avatars transform the car into an 'intelligent space'. Under the motto "in China for China," VW developed the ID.Code and ID.UX, which are perfectly tailored to the needs of the digitally savvy Gen Z.
Study: China Goes West
Chinese OEMs have to have staying power to gain a foothold in Europe. Although one in two people are willing to buy a Chinese car and the awareness of Chinese car brands is increasing, this has not been reflected in significant sales, according to Georg Mrusek from Horvath, who shared the latest data from his China automotive research.
Chery: New Sub-Brands
The Chinese OEM exports 1.8 million cars worldwide, but entered the European market relatively late. In conversation with Ashley Chen, China expert Beatrix C. Keim explored how Chery launched its two sub-brands in Spain: the design-focused Omoda and the off-roader Jaecoo. The compact SUV Omoda 5, with a progressive design and a stylish grille, was exhibited at the forum.
Many thanks to the entire team for organizing such a rich forum. It's good to reconnect again after years and meet old and new friends. Thank you for the valuable impulses and good discussions.
