Public-private partnership model in metro transit systems Encounter the blueprint for the future of urban transit where the metro station entry structure is merged with private properties. This design of underground station links each aspect of transit with business properties, in an effort to produce a bustling center of commerce. I have merged elements of the private sector with public infrastructure to create a sustainable revenue stream for Metro Rail Corporation that results in a mutually beneficial relationship between commuters and small businesses, redefining the convenience of connectivity. #Vienna to Get 2-Line S-Bahn Ring. Giving Vienna a circular #rail service has been an idea that has been around for a while. In the 2nd Vienna rail #infrastructure package presented in 2019 and adopted in 2022, Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) and the City of Vienna agreed to carry out a #feasibility study for a possible S-Bahn ring in Vienna. The study was carried out by ÖBB in co-operation with independent #transport #planning experts over the past year and a half. The results were presented today by City Councillor Ulli Sima, NEOS party leader Bettina Emmerling, SPÖ party leader Josef Taucher and ÖBB Infra board member Judith Engel. The most important result of the study is that a 2-line S-Bahn ring consisting of the S45 and S80 is possible and makes sense in terms of transport. The concept envisages that the extended S45 and S80 will create a ring with 4 #trains per hour and direction with transfers in Hütteldorf and Praterkai. This requires an #expansion of the infrastructure between Handelskai and Praterkai, which will enable the #extension of the S45 to Praterkai, as well as the completion of other ongoing and planned #railway #construction projects in and around Vienna – such as making the connecting railway more attractive and double-tracking from Hütteldorf to Penzing, including the conversion of Hütteldorf and the new Baumgarten stop. The estimated timeframe for delivering this project is completion by 2032. The possibility of a continuous ring without changing trains, which was examined in various variants, proved to be disadvantageous for the S-Bahn system and #publictransport use as a whole. A key factor in favour of this would be that the Hütteldorf transport hub could no longer be served. In addition, such a concept would result in massively increased operating costs and a large number of additional infrastructure investments. The extension of the S45 between Handelskai and Praterkai, including new stops at Reichsbrücke and Donaumarina, is currently being analysed as one of several modules in the Vienna area for possible inclusion in the 2040 target network. The 2040 target #network is due to be published at the beginning of 2024. The 2nd rail infrastructure project is currently being implemented. Subsequently, there will be talks with the City of Vienna regarding a third Vienna rail infrastructure package, which will also include the measures for the S-Bahn ring.

Hitachi Rail has gained a new #contract from the Municipality of Naples to supply 22 new-generation #trains for Naples Metro Line 6. This order is valued at 200 million EUR. It will see Hitachi Rail #manufacture the new #trains at its factories in Pistoia and Naples. Phase one of the contract will include the #construction of the first six new bidirectional metropolitan trains. These #vehicles will enter service from 2026 to help increase service frequency, capacity and passenger comfort on the #metro line. The Mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, said: “It is a fundamental step to enhance #rail #transport in the city with the latest generation trains that guarantee #efficiency and safety to users. The Administration's efforts to equip the city with an increasingly articulated and technologically advanced transport system continue.” Each of the newly ordered trains will be 39 metres long and will have capacity for 290 passengers. The units will be equipped with Automatic Train Protection (#ATP) to ensure safe operation of the trains. They will also feature an innovative air conditioning system for passenger comfort. Tramways have long been a staple of urban transportation, usually drawing power from overhead lines. However, there is another innovative approach, the Ground-Level Power Supply (GLPS). This system allows trams to collect electric power at ground level from individually-powered segments, offering several advantages over the conventional overhead lines. Unlike the third rail systems used in some railways, which are continually powered and pose a risk to pedestrians and vehicles, GLPS segments can be controlled by radio. These segments automatically switch on or off depending on whether a tram is passing over them. This radio-controlled activation ensures there is no risk to other road users, as the segments are only electrified when necessary. 🚋 Exciting news from Wiener Linien: Vienna’s public transport network is launching a modernisation programme for sustainable mobility. Vienna has big plans: the Austrian capital aims to be climate neutral by 2040, with public transport at the heart of this goal. Expansion and modernisation of services will play a key role in reaching this objective.
