Did you hear of the $25,000,000 deepfake scam? Essentially, a staff member for a bank was convinced to transfer $25.6 million into an account by scammers. Sounds ridiculous, but when you have a video call with the CFO and several other high level co-workers confirming the transaction needs to be made, you would consider the request to be genuine. This is what happened with a Hong Kong firm being victim to the first of its kind AI heist. AI was used to fake voice and video to commit the perfect social engineering attack. Crowdstrike exactly did what the name suggests crowd strike..Felt like thanos really did snap his fingers and caused a blip. A commit rolled out causing a global phenomena suggest things like - how crippled we are when technology fails us? - why organisations/companies sometimes put all eggs in one basket? - The impact was not less than a natural calamity, moresoever, natural calamity is confined to a region, this impacted worldwide, flights cancelled, food and grocery impacted, travel impacted etc. Technology was meant to solve problems not create it that too on this scale. - looking forward to what kind of challenges AI will bring on the table?
