💡 Today marks an important milestone in my academic journey, as I presented my review paper that focused on Open Innovation, particularly in platforms, at the World Open Innovation Community's WOIC 2023, in Bilbao, Basque Country, Spain. 🗞 This was my first paper, which I had begun to work on at the start of this year, along with my supervisor, Prof.Saurav Snehvrat. 📚 I try to use practitioner's frameworks in my paper in order to identify the growth of literature, as well as find interesting insights and future research avenues in Open Innovation, specific to Digital Platforms. 👏 I received some valuable feedback both prior to the session in a doctoral consortium, as well as after my paper presentation session. 📸 Thanks to Carl-Philipp Beichert and Ugo Rabenjamina for taking some great snaps of my presentation!

The EIC Pathfinder falls under the Horizon Europe program and provides assistance to research teams by funding projects that aim to establish the scientific foundation for groundbreaking technologies. This support extends to early-stage research in scientific, technological, and deep-tech fields, with a focus on exploring new and innovative directions in science and technology to disrupt industries and create new opportunities. The program also helps in developing and scaling up innovative technological solutions that can lead to breakthrough technologies and disruptive innovations in Europe. Grant funding is available for early-stage technology development, with grants of up to 3 to 4 million euros for activities at low Technology Readiness Levels (TRL 1-3) up to proof of concept. Additionally, Pathfinder projects may receive extra funding to test the innovation potential of their research outcomes. Beneficiaries of the program have access to tailored Business Acceleration Services (BAS), including global partnerships, coaching, mentoring, expertise, training, and connections to the innovation ecosystem and peers. On the tenth anniversary of the European network “Vanguard Initiative”, Euskadi reaffirms its commitment to industrial collaboration and innovation in Europe. During the meeting in Brussels, the political representatives of the initiative signed the Letter of Intention to establish the VInnovate Mechanism, a joint funding instrument designed to support the participation of Basque SMEs in innovative interregional projects of high technological level. The Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Cristina Uriarte, sealed the commitment on behalf of the Basque Government, highlighting the importance of European collaboration. The 38 regions across Europe that are part of the Vanguard Initiative have fulfilled their initial commitment to promote and facilitate access to joint funding for interregional projects. Since its foundation in 2013, the collaboration has materialized through eight Pilot Projects in areas such as Bioeconomy, Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Health. These projects seek to accelerate the introduction of innovations into the market and have contributed to the revival of European industry. In response to the experiences of the Pilot Projects, the European Commission has adopted the Interregional Innovation Investment (I3) support programme for the period 2021-2027, with a budget of EUR 570 million. Euskadi, as part of the “Vanguard Initiative”, has also submitted a proposal for the call for the Regional Innovation Valley of the Horizon Europe programme. 🌠 Today, we had the honor of participating in a roundtable discussion on "Researchpreneurship" as part of the Associació TECNIO Congress. During this session, we engaged in insightful discussions with fellow industrial experts. 🌟Our conclusion was that Europe cannot afford to let innovation languish in a drawer. There is an urgent necessity to convert scientific and technological knowledge into winning companies, and this imperative cannot be delayed any further. This is precisely why Spin-Off Partners was founded! Czechia has a real chance to become a global center in #innovation . Brno is probably the place where you can see that potential best. The city has a dense network of universities. Those universities have banded together to create a leading research institution (CEITEC - Central European Institute of Technology). The local innovation center- JIC - business with a purpose- wins European award for being the best at what it does. At the north end of the city lies the Technology Park Brno, a.s., which is unique nationally in combining research corporations and the Brno University of Technology. All along the north and south rim of the city lie major companies developing and exporting advanced technologies around the world. Some of them, such as Y Soft and Gen, have roots that begin in Brno. What then needs to be done to turn this tantalizing talent into a self-sustaining mill of new science that generates new technology that combines into new products that creates new high premiums in the global market? This is a question we have been discussing with Karel Havlicek while he was composing #TheCountryfortheFuture strategy and ever since. Many have criticized this strategy. We believe that it was the first time a Czech government had committed to becoming a innovative economy, and the first time a concrete goal- spending 2% of the GDP on research- had been set for achieving that goal. Last Friday, Petr Strelec of Thermo Fisher Scientific, Tomas Szaszi of Honeywell, Josef Svejda and Ales Cab of onsemi, Yveta Germano and Filip Svab of AT&T, Ondrej Krajicek of Y Soft, and Libor Urbanec of Garrett - Advancing Motion described what new technologies they need to create their next generation of advanced technologies, and how university can help with the research, as well as providing the next generation of researchers. Ladislav Janíček of VUTB detailed how his university is changing the paradigm of how universities operate from setting new types of targets to crafting new industrial #doctorate programs in cooperation with companies. Pavel Tomancek of CEITEC explained his brilliant idea on how to raise the scientific standard of the region through a program for the best young researchers from around the globe. The creative energy in the room had everyone ready to go. What will it take for all this to happen. The willingness to take big bets on each other. Bets, by definition, mean risk. To take that risk requires trust. VUTB needs to trust that companies can deliver jobs for their students, and interesting research projects for their professors. Companies have to trust that university researchers the science companies need on the deadlines that companies must meet to compete. The more we can trust each other, the bigger bets we can take. And the bigger bets we take, the bigger success we can achieve.
