🌿 Disconnect to Reconnect This weekend the sun has come out and I am reminded of the value of stepping away from our screens and reconnecting with the real world—especially watching young leaders in action. 🚤 Evie took charge at the cadet training, demonstrating remarkable leadership by not only instructing young sailors but also planning engaging activities that honed their skills on the water. Briefing the cadets and leading fun, developmental games, followed by hands-on training out on the rib, fast a great break from GCSE revision. ⛵ Hugh is getting ready for a challenging sailing competition. Moving from single-handed to crewing a two-man boat, he’s a testament to adaptability and skill, demonstrating the breadth of his sailing skill and the spirit of teamwork. Playing football u different positions and handling wins and losses with grace teaches resilience and encouragement. And then there’s the joy of the simpler things—like playing with my Jonathan Compston’s dog. Watching my children excel and lead away from digital distractions is a joy. It's a powerful reminder of what we can learn and how we grow when we disconnect from devices and connect with life in real time. Notable Coaches! If you are uncertified by the United States Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA) but have a successful coaching career, ventured on a self-directed journey of fencing education, and been a leader in your fencing community, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to gain recognition and certification for your accomplishments. From now through August 1, 2025, we are offering the Notable Coach Equivalency Program to award the proper certification level in all three weapons to uncertified but highly accomplished coaches for their knowledge, experience, results, and contributions to fencing. Qualified applicants will be certified as either Moniteur (level 3), Prevôt (level 4), or Maître (level 5). Applications are evaluated and scored by USFCA staff before being forwarded to the Certification and Accreditation Board (CAB) for final review and approval. The five criteria the CAB considers are: ● Academic Work ○ The candidate’s coursework and college degrees ● Student Fencers’ Results ○ National rankings, ratings, and tournament results of the candidate’s students ● Additional Sports Education ○ Attending clinics or completing courses to gain experience and education in sports ● Fencing Leadership ○ Taking on roles of leadership in fencing classes or clubs ● Personal Fencing Results ○ The candidate’s national rankings, rating, and tournament results Coaches must be USFCA members and work or live in the US to qualify. I am an every thing happens for a reason person. I don't know if that is real or what we choose to make of it but it works for me. Eek! Rewind and thank goodness: 1. Had I looked I would have realized that ducks and sheep were combined into one trial (if you don't know what this means you aren't part of the 0.00000000000000000000000000001% that competes in AKC herding trials). Bottom line we haven't earned that HC......yet! 2. Had I looked I would not have gone and enjoyed quality time with Robin Fargus and Dave and made new friends. 3. Continued lessons learned by our coach Laura Kincaid, she is amazing and I inspire to be as good of a coach as she is someday. 4. Freed us up to train the way we need to in order to get that last win that will count. 5. I get to publicly say oops I made a mistake. I am human and this happens. 6. Hoping I have learned that lesson for the last and final time as I made that mistake once before with less on the line. Reminder for me that hyper focusing on a goal I can put blinders on and lose the forest through the trees. 7. Reflect on what that piece of paper means and what is really important to me. 8.
