Thank you Kathryn Hopkins and Jenny B. Fine of WWD for soliciting my thoughts about the Saks - Neiman Marcus proposed merger. Choice, selection, service and great merchandise and merchandising with experiences that leave a positive lasting impression are all hallmarks of luxury. Will the unity of these two icons amplify or minimize these characteristics? “Efficiencies” and “optimization” savings need to be leveraged to “elevate” and drive desire with “opulence.” Then it can be deemed a success.

The merger definitely raises questions about maintaining luxury hallmarks. The focus should be on elevating experiences and driving desire. Efficiency and optimization need to lead to opulence for true success.
