As we observe #BlackWomensEqualPayDay, we bring attention to the fact that denying Black & Brown women fair and equitable wages represents one of the most insidious manifestations of racial and gender prejudice in our country, given its effects on children, families, and communities. Even with advanced educational degrees or high-powered positions, Black women still trail behind their white and male counterparts in receiving ample compensation for their work. We must renew our calls for a better system. A national #truecostofliving measure that captures the full picture of economic need in our nation can begin to bridge the economic gap for Black & Brown women across the country, putting individuals and families on the path to economic security. On average, Black women are paid just 66 cents for every dollar earned by white, non-Hispanic men. This means they must work an additional 214 days into the next year to match their counterparts' previous year's earnings. At HBCU 20x20 | The Application we are dedicated to advocating for equal pay and ensuring that every voice is heard in the fight for economic justice. Our CEO, Nicole Tinson, emphasizes, "Addressing the pay gap for Black women is crucial for achieving true equality. It's time to break down the barriers that have held back generations of talented and hardworking women." Here are some steps we can all take to level the playing field: 1. Advocate for Transparency: Encourage employers to be transparent about salaries and pay scales to ensure fairness. 2. Support Legislation: Advocate for policies that promote pay equity and hold companies accountable for discriminatory pay practices. 3. Invest in Education and Training: Support initiatives that provide Black women with access to quality education and professional development opportunities. 4. Mentorship and Sponsorship: Actively mentor and sponsor Black women in the workplace to help them advance in their careers. 5.
