Dear 🍅 🥒 🌶 growers, To ensure that young plants grow in height, they are tied up using twine. Two methods are used here: either twisting or clipping. This is so a plant does not collapse under the weight of the crop, such as a bell pepper or tomato, hanging from the plant. This prevents the plant from buckling or tearing, and the crop from losing quality. Twisting and clipping are two different techniques with the same purpose. Which one you use depends on several factors. #royalbrinkman #tomatoes #cucumbers #pepers

🌾🌾 GROWER STORY Victorian grower Ray Thornton is addicted to growing corn, and although the crop is more widely known as maize, he is quick to point out that he grows corn, the grain, not maize for silage. Ray admits he is drawn in by the long, straight rows of seedlings that spring up just five days after sowing and grow to 30 centimetres within two weeks. At three months, the crop is lush, green and almost two metres tall. And the harvest itself is bountiful, with yields of up to 20t/ha from some of the best-performing patches on his property near Waaia, north of Shepparton. But he says achieving high average yields across the whole paddock is a challenge. He has been growing corn for 30 years and has seen average yields increase from 10t/ha to this year’s harvest, which averaged between 17.5 and 18t/ha as a result of new varieties and sowing technology. 👉 Find out more about how Ray succeeds with his corn production https://bit.ly/4bOwzd2 📷 Catherine Norwood

Hey, peanut growers! How's your season going? 🌱🥜 Tune in to hear expert insights from Scott Montfort on this year's peanut acreage growth in an interview with our very own Wayne Brown, Nichino Sales Rep. Don't miss out on this valuable conversation! And, fresh from the field, here are some updated numbers: Over 1 million acres of peanuts are expected in the Southeast this year, with 820,000 in Georgia and 190,000 in Florida and Alabama. Due to May's 300% average precipitation in Georgia, planting is behind schedule, with only 75% of acres planted compared to 87% last year. #PeanutGrowers #AgricultureInsights

25 years ago, I remember my father-in-law and I were discussing how our neigbor was planting melons seeds every 9 inches. We both thought, man, he's got some courage to plant melons so far apart. We were planting them at 6 to 7 seven inches. Then we would have to come back later and have a choppin crew come thin our plant population down. But he saved his money by taking that risk and planted his to the population we all wanted. If one melon seed or two doesn't germinate or suffers some sort of pest damage you can have large skips in your field. Nowadays we are planting them every 15 to 16 inches. The seed is just ridiculously expensive. It's about 600 dollars an acre even with one seed every 15 inches lol. We have to find ways to remain competitive. The insane costs of doing business, and regulations that our competitors are not required to do, enjoy the opportunity to sell fruit and vegetables right next to ours. The challenge to put fruit and vegetables on the stores shelves against growers from other states and countries is extremely challenging. One plant every 16 inches scares me to death lol. It's nerve racking to plant melons as there are so few seeds and if you have the slightest issues you'll end up with huge skips in your field. But somehow we find a way, for now anyway.

🌍📝 Roasted corn, a simple yet delightful treat, symbolizes the tireless efforts of a farmer. This humble dish is a product of the toil and dedication that go into cultivating corn. From the planting and nurturing of the cornfields to the harvesting and shucking of the corn cobs, farmers invest months of hard work and sweat to bring this staple crop to our tables. The act of roasting corn is a testament to the farmer's labor. As the corn cob is placed over an open flame or on a grill, the charred kernels represent the fruits of the farmer's labor, transformed into a savory, smoky delight. The crackling of the corn husks and the aroma of roasting corn evoke images of rural fields and the dedication of those who tend to them. Every bite of roasted corn is a reminder of the farmer's persistence in the face of unpredictable weather, pest infestations, and the countless challenges that come with agriculture. It's a tribute to their commitment to providing us with the sustenance we often take for granted. In enjoying roasted corn, we can savor not only the flavors but also the hard work and resilience of the farmers who make this simple pleasure possible. They say to go out and touch the grass once in a while. While you can’t compromise on quality improved seeds for commercial production, some heirloom/open-pollinated varieties thrive with proper care. And the best part? They’re incredibly affordable. A tin of pepper seeds for just N500, which is over 100 grams, compared to N14,500 for less than 5 grams of hybrid pepper seeds from a popular company! Do the math! For beginner farmers/gardeners looking to start on a budget, the local seed market is the way to go! • • • #aridgoldfarms #seed #seedsaving #heirloomseeds #localmarket #sustainability

A Deep Dive into Effective Hop Harvest Management Strategies Certainly, you've always been curious about the strategies that BrewHub and its partner, Hopsteiner, employ to ensure a successful hop harvest, providing a high-quality source of hops for brewers. Let's explore specific strategies below, both in terms of cultivation and harvesting, with BrewHub. Firstly, timing is crucial. It's essential to select the optimal period for harvesting, considering factors such as hop variety, climate conditions, and ripeness. Following that, we also need to selectively pick fully matured hops, leaving behind those that need more time to develop. This helps enhance the overall quality of the hops. Next, after harvesting, we have to quickly dry and enhance the hops to ensure proper preservation and the highest quality. Finally, stringent quality checks are essential. We ensure that only the best hops are brought into production. #CraftBrewery #CraftBeer #GermanHops #BrewHub #BrewHubVN #BeverageIndustry #Hopsteiner
