President for Manufacturing & Operations Recruiting @ American Recruiters || Former Plant + Operations Manager
Are you passing up on the service contract because you don't have technicians? Are you struggling to find technicians who are not asking for the world? This conversation with a client led to new opportunities. Compressed Air Distributor President: “Matthew, I like that you find technicians with experience, but my problem with them is that they can damage goods. Me: How so? President: Technicians from larger companies, in my experience, have picked up bad habits.” Me: “What are you looking for?” President: “Find me an industrial mechanic who has worked on compressors, pumps, and gearboxes. Fresh clay.” Me: I then shared stories of the best mechanics that I know. Industrial mechanics who plant managers and supervisors count on. President: “Yes. I can turn people like that into the best field service engineers in the market.” Me: This opens a sea of opportunities for technicians who will be thankful for someone giving them the chance to step away from shift work. President; “Go find them.” The answer is right under your nose. Technicians and shift mechanics facilities that you service and maintain. These Industrial mechanics know how to think creatively on the off-shift. These are mechanics that take pride in saving the day. Offer them the opportunity. And you will have a loyal employee who is grateful to be given the career break they have been dreaming of.

MEM/HME Maintenance Engineer (Autonomous & Non-Autonomous Assets), AHS Specialist, & Tri Trader (Automotive Electrician, HD Fitter, & HVAC Mechanic) at Ready Resources Pty Ltd. Australia.
THERE’S A REASON FOR EVERYTHING… Everything happens for a reason, whether it's something you're excited about or not. It's all for a purpose in the big picture. Enjoy the process knowing it will be used to make you stronger in the long run. Sometimes certain events are necessary in order for a grander opportunity to cross our paths. I had the privilege to scout talent across the world. During the process, I scheduled an interview for 2 people at the same time with different professional roles (Automotive Electrician & HD Fitter) but with the same question on a mobile plant fault. After the engagement with these gentlemen, one of the senior management questioned why I did that and one of the applicants was also not happy because he said was I trying to expose his weaknesses? My reasons for doing this 2-man interview was that, there’s a lot of instances where when a machine breakdown or a recurring faults happen; there is sometimes a blame game between Auto Electricians and HD Fitters especially when the machine fault is complicated. So I was expecting these from them: 1. Teamwork 2. Collaboration and knowledge sharing in solving the machine fault 3. Individual weaknesses and what one can do to cover up 4. Learning from each other Stochastically, I have been in the mining maintenance field(Engineering Management, Automotive Electrical/Electronics, HD Fitter, HVAC, and AHS) for awhile and I know the pros and cons as well as RAMs(Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety) is concerned and I have seen some of the drawbacks. All comments, suggestions and questions are welcome… #HRmanagement #FutureEngagement #learningstrategy #businessimprovement

Director Fixed Ops | Driving Relationships Podcast Host | EV driver in training | Servant Leader | Car business, golf and beekeeping.
Technicians amaze me… These big jobs always look so overwhelming to me, but the technician working on this one said “it’s not that big of a deal, it’s just like a puzzle, you take it apart and put it back together again”. Skilled trades, specifically auto mechanics are in such high demand. This career path should have much more respect and funding, but unfortunately, we would rather send people to get degrees in things they will never use in the real world. Any chance you get, please support and promote skilled trades in your local community! After all, these are the people who will be working on your car, house, plumbing, electrical, etc…. #mechanics #technicians #carbusiness #fixedops #automotive #skilledtrades

My job is considered a multi-craft technician. What does multi-craft really, mean, not everyone is a expert in every field or feel qualified to do some task/ jobs expected. There will always be a stronger field of expertise and its is almost always the one you feel most comfortable in or find the challenge in doing and that feeling of accomplishment. My current employer is very strong on their commitment to Multi-craft technicians, this can be alot to ask a new mechanic. Just in my years at my Employer, yes I used years I am still learning. We work with High voltage electricity, robotics, pneumatics, steam, energetic equipment, production equipment, this is just a small portion of what one is expected to work on or with. We must be able to use Manuals, schematics, drawings, knowledge, past experience etc.... to repair and even understand what one is working on or with. I am mechanic so my strongest skill or aspect is in that mechanical maintenance. To help Understand and to do the other aspects of my jobs I have taken secondary classes, worked with journeyman, worked with factory technicians and good Ole on the job trainin and what I find helps the most working with the maintenance workers at the job site. The last one is where skills and past experience can be shared, this can be tricky with some, you also know what is meant by this. Not just knowing your skills it is also knowing your limits, it is better to ask for help than what the alternative can be. I have asked that question and got that look or that answer and you know what I mean. So what makes me a multi-craft is not my job or my title but my ability and willingness to take on the challenge, seek out the training and help from individuals that are willing to help gain understanding of the other fields and aspects of the work. Hopefully at your employer, your management sees the need for training the need to work different individuals or work groups together for crosstraining and also to need or help to build confidence and moral. Experience should not just be learned it needs to be shared and used to teach.
