Most industry compbio jobs now are hybrid, anywhere from 1-4 days on site a week. But how often do/should you show up in the office? What is the happy medium for hybrid work for computational biologists? I find that pinning down an exact number of days to be on site is impossible (and often controversial). Instead, there are opportunities that I would prioritize being on site for: - Meetings for which I am presenting and for which many attendees will be on site. - Meetings with a bench scientist to discuss how best to analyze data they generated. So much of this gets lost in emails that it's better to just talk to the person directly in real time. - Lunch with my teammates. On certain days of the week most of them are on site. - The opportunity to have the entire office to myself for focused work. Advantages of single cell sequencing are well known. Decreased sequencing costs are enabling increased usage. Researchers have limited funds and want cost effective single cell capture and library prep to go with those reduced sequencing costs, but still want high performance results. At BD, we work hard to meet this need.
