How do we see the intersection of biology and tech evolving?   This Wednesday was the launch of a new HTBC TechBio chapter led by Leigh Brody, AlbionVC life sciences investor. In another conversation from #bio2024, I spoke to Sam Clark, MD PhD, Founder and CEO of Terran Biosciences. Terran is developing new prodrugs for the treatment of #schizophrenia. We talked about the process for identifying candidates and iterating for optimization as well as Sam's experience as a first-time #founder. He talked about the importance of picking a focus, sticking with it, and assembling the right team. Workflows for the win. I have seen a pattern in several interviews recently. Changing a process can have as big of an effect on solving a problem (and creating success for a company) as developing a new product. In this case, it’s a bit of both. The problem being solved by TerXT is the patient regimen. Prodrugs with longer-duration pharmacokinetics make adherence easier for the patient. At the same time, I appreciate the enormous amount of development effort that went into creating those prodrugs. Terran's approach to assembling teams and managing them is also a significant change in the workflow that is having an impact. It has been so energizing to take a break from all the heartbreaking news from Israel and spend two days focusing on innovation in the neurotech industry. Thank you JoJo Platt for the invitation to participate as a representative of Corundum Neuroscience (CNS), previously Joy Ventures, in the Neurotech Reports Neurotech Leaders Forum. It was wonderful to share perspective on neurotech investing with my fellow neurotech investors Suraj Mudichintala and Martin Dieck. This is a great meeting to gain insights from leaders in the field, hear from creative startups in the neurotech space, and have honest discussions about reimbursement challenges, how to ensure products are really benefiting patients, and how to bring a successful and high impact product to the largest number of patients. #neurotechnology #neurotech
