Shout out to all fellow cover teachers! I can't believe I missed this. I am asked so, so often about what it's like being a cover teacher (especially about the pay). So here are the biggest pros & cons. pros: -Take holiday leave whenever you like - Sleep soundly every Sunday night. - If you don't like a school you don't have to work a long notice period. - Flexible hours to suit. - Good hourly rate: approx £25 - £30 - Get to experience a wide range of schools - No unpaid overtime - No lunchtime or break duty supervision cons: - Unpredictable earnings (September & October very quiet) - You miss feeling part of a permanent school community. - Rushing every morning to get to a new place. - Being cancelled on last minute - long commute to far off places regularly - poor classroom behaviour (until you become more established) - zero holiday pay and often £0 sick pay. Anything else to add?
