"Leadership for law firms" Last week So-Ang Park, Katharina Brinck and I had the privilege of hosting an inspiring group of young equity partners from leading law firms all across the Nordics in our Oslo office to share our thoughts on leadership for law firms. We were impressed by the high level of curiosity and openness, the intense day was filled with deep sharing and learning. A special thanks to Carol Kauffman PhD who joined us to talk about self-leadership in high-stakes situations. In our experience, becoming an equity partner encompasses many challenges and requirements that go beyond technical expertise. But most firms do not prepare their up and coming stars for the fundamental identity shift they have to go through. The much needed transformation from a pure subject matter expert to a true leader and owner of the firm is difficult and requires awareness and introspection. Succeeding with this journey is critical for the partners themselves, the teams they are to lead and the clients they are to advise. It was inspiring and insightful to witness how this group of young partners discussed their leadership aspirations and growth opportunities with us and each other. The dreams and ambitions we gathered are a clear indication that this next generation of leaders will contribute to transforming their firms and the legal profession. Mattos Filho announced that Pedro Whitaker de Souza Dias (pictured) take up his role as the firm’s new managing partner effective Wednesday, April 3. Following a ten-month leadership transition period with former managing partner and firm founder Roberto Quiroga Mosquera, Dias will now lead the firm’s management for the next three years. It's that time of the year again - law firm ranking season! Leaders League has released its 2024 list of Portugal's best for white-collar crime, with Cuatrecasas, Morais Leitão and Uría Menéndez heading the Portuguese pack (hmm...two out of three Spanish names there...). Either way, it's great to see many familiar and reputable law firm names on this new list. It would be interesting to know the criteria used, to add depth and detail to this good work on the national legal market.
