Some of our Porters had the opportunity to participate in the #FlavorsOfHope event hosted by the Cancer Support Community of Greater Ann Arbor last Friday! This event aimed to support and promote CSC's essential programs, known for enhancing the physical well-being, mental health, and overall quality of life for cancer patients. Beyond its cause, the event itself was a wonderful affair, featuring a lively and interactive strolling dinner, accompanied by live jazz music, and an auction that included trips to the Cayman Islands and Michigan's Upper Peninsula. All proceeds from this event go directly to supporting the CSC of Greater Ann Arbor, ensuring they can sustain their services for the community they serve.

The summer solstice is the day with the most light – The Longest Day. Today, people from around the world are raising awareness for the dark fight against Alzheimer’s disease, a type of dementia that affects memory, thinking, and behavior. It's Alzheimer's Awareness Month💜 Every 65 seconds, someone in the U.S. develops Alzheimer's. Currently 6 million Americans are living with the disease. Alzheimer's isn't just about forgetfulness; it's about changes that challenge one's lifestyle. Symptoms to watch for include trouble understanding visual images, misplacing things, and decreased or poor judgment. This month, let's pledge to support, educate, and advance research. Join local events, share resources, and be there for those in need. Together, we can fight Alzheimer's! 🌼 #AlzheimersAwareness https://lnkd.in/g_WwqMHZ

BT (Retired)/Widower Trustee with the Charity "Beads of Courage UK", which was formerly named "Be Child Cancer Aware"
Children's rights in hospital are certainly very important and need highlighting! ...Well done CCLG!! 🎗️❤️ But I feel that I have to say that I find two things that are not entirely correct in this: (Both under the title: "The Right to Safety and Environment" in the Research Roundup - The second is by far the most important in my opinion!) ------ 1. "Hospitals USUALLY ALSO ALLOW A PARENT TO STAY WITH THEIR CHILD, which can help children feel safer and more comfortable." [In my experience, parents are EXPECTED to stay with their children! ...which almost all want to do anyway, especially with younger children!] & 2. "Hospitals are also always trying to improve and give children AND FAMILIES lots of opportunities to give feedback about the care they have received. This can highlight whether there are issues like UNSUITABLE FOOD, poor accessibility, or if improvements are needed in the ward’s cleaning." [Also in my experience, parents DO NOT get any food provided for them when in hospital with their children in the UK, and haven't been for years! *See page 8 (Item No. 11) of the WHO document! - free meals for parents!!? - it says, under "Meaningful Progress": "Most parents are allowed and encouraged to stay with their children AND have other rights in hospital, such as free meals"!!?] ------ *Please see my comment below.
Do you know that children have rights when they're in the hospital? Children deserve the best care possible whilst facing cancer, and have the right to high-quality services, play and learning, and much more. These rights can help children with cancer and their families feel more supported during their hospital experience, which could help their emotional well-being during and after treatment 💛 Check out our latest #ResearchRoundup blog post where we explore the important rights children have in hospital, and see how these are being assessed and improved: https://bit.ly/3VcmdhG #CCLG #ChildhoodCancer #ChildhoodCancerResearch

May is ALS Awareness Month! ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that causes disjunction between the brain and muscles. This worsens over time and affects the ability to walk, talk, eat, and breathe. While there is currently no cure or treatment to reverse damage to motor neurons, new treatments have become available in the past several years that can increase the quality of life for those suffering from ALS and slow its progression. At Plus One, we provide therapies and experiences that can positively impact mobility, strength, and bodily function for those battling ALS. We look forward to a cure and invite you all to help raise awareness. #PlusOneFoundation #NonprofitOrganization #ALSAwarenessMonth #ALS #NeurologicalConditions

https://lnkd.in/etMgetFE I am helping to encourage our generation and gender that it important to start talking about #prostatecancer early. As we grow into age, Men in general find opening up about illness as a form of weakness or to some extent find it embarrassing. The more we are able to create the social awareness about our #wellness #mental and #physical not just by going to the gym we will allow ourselves to integrate and conversate on fitness and illnesses as serious such as #cancer in our community more openly. We meet and recognise age, it also a factor that we are open to many things by natural causes or inhereditary. I have start a #charity with my latest Instagram @chefpanthony post to support the #prostatecancer community and awareness simple because of how important it is to start talking or keep echoing the important of breaking the silence especially with my ethnicity. The platform is just to #create a voice to spark a conversation exchanging words and hoping to help uplift confidence where we are low or feeling alone. Talking only can kick start help. #cancerresearchuk #nhsengland #beatcancer #cancerawareness #livehealthy Take care before you loose control of your #livelihood it determine the rest of your #life
Paul A.Johnson🇯🇲🇬🇧 on Instagram: "I am raising the awareness of this illness to help my generation understand it's ok to talk about #health and benefits from the effectiveness of early #cancer treatment in men. Take care before you loose control, of your livelihood. #cancerreseach #nhs #canceruk"

Fighting for causes we care about is an amazing way to show support and make a tangible difference in the world. I know from personal experience - since my MS diagnosis in 2012, I've wanted more than anything else to give back and raise awareness of this condition. Our team is wearing orange shoe covers in each home instead of our signature yellow ones during the month of March, and we are encouraging our clients and friends to post pictures wearing their orange apparel on social media using the hashtag #OrangeOutMS. For every photo taken and submitted Simmons One Hour will make a $10 donation to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. What is Multiple Sclerosis (MS)? Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system—the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves. It is thought that in people with MS their own immune system attacks their myelin—the protective coating surrounding nerve fibers in the central nervous system. This disrupts communication between the brain and other parts of the body which can cause a wide range of symptoms including fatigue, muscle weakness or spasticity, problems with balance or coordination, vision problems such as blurred vision or color blindness, as well as cognitive issues such as difficulty with problem-solving or memory loss. What Can I Do? At Simmons One Hour we recognize how important it is to raise awareness for Multiple Sclerosis so we have organized this campaign for anyone who wants to join in on helping us raise awareness about MS during my birthday month of March. Every customer we visit during March will be encouraged to take pictures wearing their orange apparel and post those pictures on social media using the #OrangeOutMS hashtag. The goal of our #OrangeOutMS campaign is simple but powerful—we want people everywhere who are affected by multiple sclerosis (or know someone who is) to feel supported and acknowledged during the month of March! Thank you for joining us in supporting this important cause! Together we can make a difference! Take those photos today; your gift will help support MS research, programs, services, and more! Thank you for your 🧡! https://lnkd.in/dEHnj2z -Derek Cole #OrangeOutMS
