I'm excited to share my recent experience at Ibrahim Fibres Ltd., where I had the opportunity to work closely with a team of Electrical and Instrumentation Engineers. During my internship, we faced a challenging situation when a comfort air fan in the plant suddenly tripped, halting the air supply to different Areas of Plant. It was essential to act quickly to restore the air supply. Drawing on troubleshooting principles, we began with basic steps and then moved on to more complex actions. First, we attempted to restart the fan by power resetting the motor, but this didn’t resolve the issue. Suspecting a potential problem with the feedback signal or safety mechanism, we bypassed the Pressure Differential Switch (PDS), which measures the pressure difference across the fan. However, this also did not resolve the issue. Next, we checked the health of the on-site service switch, which was functioning correctly. We then moved to the Motor Control Centre (MCC) to examine the inputs to the motor inverters using the drawings. All inputs were present, indicating no issues in this area. At this point, we proceeded to a more significant step: testing the control unit. We replaced the control unit with one of the two fans used for supplying quench air. This action successfully cleared all errors and warnings, confirming that the original control unit was faulty and needed replacement. After replacing the control unit, we restored the PDS to its normal operation and successfully restarted the fan. What I Learned: ✔ The importance of systematic troubleshooting, starting with simple solutions before escalating to more complex actions. ✔ How to effectively use technical drawings and MCCs to diagnose equipment issues. ✔ The critical role of redundancy in plant operations, allowing us to minimize downtime by utilizing spare components. #EngineeringInternship #Troubleshooting #ElectricalEngineering #Instrumentation #ProcessAutomation #ControlSystems #IndustrialEngineering #Manufacturing #ProfessionalGrowth #HandsOnExperience #EngineeringStudents #Technicalskills #Teamwork

How did I find our amazing industry? By accident, I just needed a job. I left home right after high-school. Rented a room in Queens while I worked as a child party entertainer (😂 oddly enough i was very good at that) on the weekend and did general maintenance i.e. painting at night at Chelsea Priers NYC. Why? Well I had to survive and I waiting, waiting to hear back from companies like Con Edison and the MTA after having taken exams for entry level electrical positions. You see I went to a Vocational High School to study theoretical and practical electrical work. So naturally my next step was to find a career in a related field. The two jobs and odds hours wasn't great for my social life 😂  but I needed food and shelter. Then one day I got a random opportunity to interview with an elevator company via my father's coworker, who was a karate teacher to a student who co-founded the company. Turns out the the company was a vertical Transportation consulting firm (WTF was that? 😂) and the job opportunity, we’ll it was to file papers. I got the job and the rest is history. The point is the path isn't always perfect and opportunities aren't always immediate or clear but when they do come around grab a hold and make the best of them.
