#SHSMD2023 We’ve come a long way. SHSMD 2021 was my first time as a conference exhibitor. After years of attending physical therapy conferences as a speaker or attendee, I had no idea what went into setting up an exhibit hall booth. I nervously went to San Antonio in a barely “post-Covid” setting and set up our Causeway table (honestly, “booth” would have been generous). I had a table, a well branded tablecloth and …well, that was pretty much it. Attendance wasn’t great (Sept 2021 was still not “normal”), I didn’t exactly know how to describe what Causeway did, and our table set up was a bit underwhelming. But… I did it. I met some cool people, like Donna and Darryl of Viddler. I absorbed everything that I could about the healthcare marketing and strategy world. And once I returned home, I was much more confident in the uniqueness and need for what we could offer. Fast forward 2 years…and now Causeway Solutions, LLC is at #SHD2023 in Chicago with a very impressive booth that doesn’t only look polished, but also can display amazing #AdvancedAudiences for specific geographies in real-time. I’m so impressed by how our team and our offerings have evolved, and how they continue to do so. If you’re attending, please stop by booth 211 (head right at the bottom of the escalator), say hello, and grab a New Orleans themed Mardi Gras duckie. I promise that we aren’t aggressive sales people. In fact, probably the opposite- Jamie, Catharine and I are nerdy healthcare meets data people that all had experience in the hospital world before switching to Causeway. And if you weren’t able to make the trip (stupid hospital budget cutbacks🤦🏻♂️), please reach out- I’d love to share our new audiences. #DataDoneRight #healthcaremarketing

Talking to healthcare experts is one of the best parts of my job. Take a look at what they shared with me about what they consider the most--and least--promising innovations in the coming years.
I just got back from HLTH in Las Vegas, which was both fun and rewarding (even if seeing people playing slots and smoking alone at 6:45am en route to my hotel checkout was beyond depressing; moving on). If there is one thing that I heard from funders and founders alike at HLTH, over and over, it was this: "Be ready to scale." That means no more cash for ideas alone, a healthy skepticism of novelty, and longer exit timelines for innovative companies. This isn't at all a bad thing (unless you were counting on a three-year timeline and a pre-profitability payout, I guess). But that doesn't mean innovation is dead; to the contrary, we're in that most-interesting phase when we get to see how the innovations deployed over the past few years will actually shake out. And fortunately, that's the subject of our newest research study--in which our chief research officer Yulan Egan and our research director Kirsta Hackmeier are looking at which innovative technologies, business models, and financing mechanisms are likely to match with current and imminent industry challenges. In today's Union Healthcare Insight post, Kirsta walks us through her team's early thoughts, with some survey results on which innovations appear poised to transform, and which will likely fall down the memory hole. We'd love your thoughts also. We have an upcoming free and interactive webinar on this topic (and more behind the paywall), so don't forget to register, like, repost, and subscribe.

For the past couple of months, Kirsta Hackmeier and I have been interviewing strategy and innovation leaders from across industry sectors. Every conversation has taken us in a slightly different direction, but we've made sure to ask all of our interviewees the same two questions: 1) Which emerging innovations do you think will be most impactful in the next 2-5 years, and 2) Which do you think are overhyped? In this week's Union Healthcare Insight blog post, Kirsta shares the initial results of those survey questions—and some initial thoughts on what those responses reveal about the current state of the innovation landscape.
