We want to take this opportunity to thank all those who joined us for our in-person event in London yesterday focused on how we can apply a coaching approach to international development. We also thank Crown Agents for doing such a fabulous job in hosting this event and to Paul Wafer for chairing the session. We appreciated the thoughts shared by the panellists: Ben French, Sarah-Jane Marriott (ICF PCC), Mark Keen and Tina Maria Saeteraas Stoum and for the insightful comments and questions from those who joined us. Some of the highlights that stood out for me were: --> for an industry built on technical knowledge and an 'expert' driven approach, how do we encourage those who work in this sector to adopt a more humble approach where their expertise may be used in partnership with others? What's the shift that needs to happen in our own ways of thinking and working with others? --> even when more people are recognising that we need to move away from a linear and externally driven approach to programming, to build trusting relationships with partners, the funding process and operational side of things is still not set up to work in this more adaptive or innovative way. --> those working in this sector (particularly those with white privilege or other forms of privilege) need to be more aware of the power that they hold and look for people to share it with. This is particularly important as we look for ways to actively #decolonise the sector and #shiftthepower. Upcoming event, in-person in London. Useful for folks who are part of/heading to B-corp but also others in parallel initiatives (e.g. certification, benchmarking). B-corp has created lots of shifts, and yet I also find it's limits frustrating. Division Director's New Week Message Good morning, leaders. I’d like to share a brief thought about agency. Many times our expectations come through. Also, many times they don’t. What we do when they don’t defines our agency and this in turn determines if we ultimately make progress towards our goals or settle for disappointment. I’m aware of the many challenges we face in this clime that pose blinders to achieving our personal and collective goals. Let’s take the naira/dollar rate as an example. Today $1 exchanges for N1415 in the black market. This means that we won’t experience the same ease renewing in the upcoming February/March window as we did during the August/September cycle last year. Will we then cease participation because of this hiccup? No. We must find a way to stretch our agency. To increase agency, three things are most crucial; 1. Acceptance of the gravity of the obstacle.  2. Believe that we are capable of surmounting it. 3. Device and unrelenting implementation of as many strategies as it takes to get over the hill. An idiom that encapsulates this is, “When there’s a will there’s a way.” I encourage us to hold on to this thought, believe in ourselves and decide not to stop until we achieve our personal, Club and Area goals, and of course our vision of a highly reengaged Division F that is Distinguished, very visible and has chartered 10 new clubs by 30th April, 2024.
