This week's climate number is 35. Only 35% of emissions are covered by a national commitment to net zero by 2050. This information is contained in a white paper published in November this year by the Boston Consulting Group and the World Economic Forum entitled "The State of Climate Action". The report also states that only 7% of emissions are covered by countries with ambitious policies to reach their net zero targets. The report identifies the top ten emitters, which account for half of the gap to 1.5°C, as the most critical actors for stronger commitments and action. Breaking Climate News: The European Commission aims for a 90% reduction in net GHG emissions by 2040 compared to 1990 levels, as crucial step towards climate neutrality by 2050! 🌿 Key Takeaways: 🔍 The proposal published yesterday, provides a 2040 climate target that strengthens the EU's commitment to combating climate change and aligns with the European Green Deal. 🔍 The EU's 2030 climate target is to reduce net GHG emissions by at least 55% relative to 1990.
