Hey Connections!! I'm shared about my school Experience! Flipping through the chapters of our past, grateful for the lessons learned and the bonds formed. School life is a chapter filled with a blend of experiences, lessons, friendships, and transformations that leave an indelible mark on one's character. My journey through school was no different, weaving a tapestry of memories that shaped me into who I am today.The first day at school was a blend of excitement and nervousness, stepping into what felt like a new world, bustling with unfamiliar faces and endless possibilities. The pristine uniform, the weight of the backpack filled with books yet to be explored, and the daunting task of making new friends seemed like monumental challenges. Yet, it was the beginning of an adventure that would teach me more about life than the pages of any textbook could.As years progressed, the corridors of the school, once daunting, became familiar territory. Classrooms turned into arenas of knowledge, playgrounds into battlefields where victories were celebrated, and defeats were mourned, yet all were lessons in disguise. Teachers became mentors, not just educators, guiding us through academic rigors while instilling values that textbooks alone could not convey. They taught us resilience in the face of failure, the importance of integrity, and the power of kindness.The diversity of school life brought people from different backgrounds into my life, each leaving a mark on my journey. Friendships were forged in the fires of shared experiences, from struggling through difficult assignments to cheering each other on in sports or cultural events. Today, my beautiful and wonderful mama retires from a 23-year journey in education. Her dedication has touched countless lives, and I couldn't be more proud. I recently asked her a few questions to reflect on her career and wanted to share. Q: How many years have you taught for? A: 23 years Q: What grades did you teach? A: 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th, and 8th (with 8 years as a teacher on special assignment for reading intervention and educational coaching) Q: What was your favorite thing about teaching? A: My favorite thing about teaching has been helping students gain confidence in themselves both academically and socially. Q: If you could change one thing about education, what would it be? A: One thing I would change about education is how we evaluate students, teachers, and school success. Thank you, mom, for every child you've poured into (there's been A LOT) and for every ounce of selflessness you showed to your students over the years. Cheers to retirement. What I love most about our work is the kind of relationship I have with the people we work with, especially our students. I remember Kelly, one of our education coaches, saying, “We’re more than tutors; we’re their mentors and big sisters.” And that hits home. Every child has the potential to do great things, but it takes a whole family to support them. Sometimes they just need someone to guide and support them the way they need, whether it's parents, teachers or someone they can get along with like a 'Big Brother/Sister' (but happens to know EVERYTHING about study, school and ATARs). Either way, I love working with families and then, through the process, BECOMING family... Because that's when the biggest challenges are conquered and when the biggest, most hard-won battles are finally won and celebrated — TOGETHER. Beyond the tutoring and sharing best practices in navigating high school or getting into dream courses in university, the kind of bond our students build with us is why I get up each day. I love that even after high school, they choose to stay in touch and keep us up to date about the exciting new things happening in their lives. As your honorary 'big sister', I'm so proud of how each of you is growing into more and more of your best self. And you know what? As we sat chit-chatting, we reminisced about the good old #𝐍𝐂𝐄𝐑𝐓 days, the in-built Learning solutions provided at our school, and how it helped each one of us lay our own paths! 💭𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠: Witnessing the Evolution of each friend, from eager schoolchildren to Accomplished Adults, highlighted the importance of Adaptable and Inclusive Learning Solutions in facilitating our Individual Growth and Development.  💭𝐃𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐭𝐲𝐥𝐞𝐬: From Traditional Academic pursuits📝to Unconventional paths as a Dance Instructor💃🏻, Digital media Lead, and a Stay-at-Home mom👧🏻, our diverse journeys underscored the need for #adaptable and #inclusive #learningsolutions that catered to Unique needs and interests for each one of us. 🌴𝐃𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 ‘𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡’ 𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬: We were full of admiration for one another's achievements. What do your meal times look like? 🍴🍽️🍴 Every night when my family gathers at the dinner table, my wife and I see a powerful opportunity to spark meaningful conversations with our sons (for the record - it's still very much work in progress!!!). We try to make these conversations go beyond the usual ‘What happened at school today?’. They’re about sharing conversations that constantly instil the belief in our children that they’re highly capable of changing the world around them. 🌎 As parents, there’s so much we can do by just sitting with our children for a couple of minutes every day- ignite our child’s curiosity, encourage dreams, and foster a growth mindset. No matter how brilliantly busy we are, 1 minute can just be the difference in a day. It could create a memorable moment. 🤔 I define a moment like this, as a moment when your views of the world change in a positive way. However, here’s the key - I believe every stakeholder in a child’s journey is essential. Educators, parents, and the wider community are all invaluable sources of inspiration in a child’s holistic development and you never know when a memorable moment could be created.
