On July 4th, I had the privilege to attend together with my Colleagues of the Board of the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce (CICC) a meeting with the Italian Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy (MIMIT), Adolfo Urso, during his recent mission to China. The event, held at the Italian Embassy in Beijing, brought together key figures from the Italian business community in China. Ambassador Massimo Ambrosetti hosted the gathering at the Auditorium of the Italian Cultural Institute, setting the stage for a productive dialogue between government officials and business leaders. Minister Urso highlighted the mission's focus on fostering cooperation in green technology and electric mobility, emphasizing environmental and digital sustainability. This aligns with Italy's broader strategy to enhance technological leadership and economic growth in Europe. The meeting provided a unique platform for Italian businesses to share their success stories, discuss challenges, and express their needs directly to Minister Urso. It was an invaluable opportunity to strengthen economic ties between Italy and China, reflecting the ongoing efforts in a fast changing global scenario, and the crucial role of institutional-business relationships in navigating this complex landscape. Last month marked a significant milestone as Sweden joined NATO, following Finland’s accession last year. This expansion not only increases security within the Euro-Atlantic region but also strengthens ties with the United States and other NATO countries, paving the way for enhanced business opportunities for both Swedish and Finnish enterprises. Our team at Nordic Trading House has conducted an in-depth project exploring how businesses can capitalize on these opportunities with NATO and its member states' defense forces. Spain seem to know what to do , they're following a system whereas France are clearly struggling to know how to break them down. This was a piece of commentary in the recent gold medal Olympics. When the very best come together you need to know what to expect and do. Have you noticed this in your business? You've reached a certain level of success without really knowing which cogs have turned? You're certainly not alone. You can reach a certain point without systems but you do reach a limit. Is this where you're at? Systems give you control of most situations. Human intervention is always necessary but you don't have to be the one involved with that. Are you prepared to switch the lever in case of geo-political tensions? Are you set up for India's growth to overtake Germany and Japan's GDP and move into third place by 2030 or even earlier? Not quite sure? Then please consider the following: From a business risk management point of view, are you running your AP market strategy as a whole? The setup you might want to consider is splitting the AP market into two: The Indo-Pacific market on one side and the market in China on the other, so that you can switch the lever and make the two areas independent from each other when you must (geo-political worst scenario, we hope we never see). Many German companies have a good presence in India. Why not build on their existing infrastructure, even with manufacturing footprints, and utilize this as their base to supply the Indo-Pacific market, too? How about the importance of the Indian market itself? Considering the current growth rates of India's GDP, India might overtake Germany and Japan as the third-largest economy by 2030 or even earlier. It is only six years in the making. Chinese and Japanese companies are the ones to watch because they also have India on their radar screen. Inspiring frankness from Argentina's new President Javier Milei about the economic difficulties to come, and his pledge to move quickly. Milei embarks on a delicate path where the pain of necessary economic steps will increase polarization and erode the political capital he needs to manage the transition...but the inspiring core message in his inauguration should not be overlooked--Sadly, it is often forgotten in Latin America...and also in the US: Is the EFFORT and INNOVATION of the PERSON and the PRIVATE SECTOR that generates VALUE...NOT the government. Milei embarks on his journey that will profoundly impact both Argentina and the region with a credible economic, foreign policy, and security team. I wish him--and all who have not lost the strength to dream--the best on this journey.
