That is such an overlooked need for smaller businesses and what a great thing to be giving away for free. It is not only really important to ensure that everyone has the same things covered but is also a great process for existing managers to use as a checklist to see what if anything may have changed since the last new person joined the company. I have joined medium and large companies in the past and inductions have ranged from great to dreadful. Even if you already have an onboarding/induction checklist it would be worth checking this one out to see what you may have missed..

I'm not sure who this aimed at as I'd have thought that any business worth it's salt should have something like in place already. It is an important area though and when woring for Network Rail 20 odd years ago I created a process along similar lines for new recruits joing what at the time was a new team in the business. My process was designed to complement the existing NR one and targetted the organisation and functions of the new team. As already said first impressions do count and there's nothing worse than having a new person join a team that that seemed to be unready to take them on board.

I would like to highlight that a UK employer should check a new employee's right to work before they start work. If the right to work check is conducted on the employee's first day, it must be conducted first thing. So if a UK employer's practice is to check new joiners' right to work on the first day of work, the new joiner/onboarding checklist should reflect that the right to work check is the very first thing that happens when the new employee arrives at work. I agree it is very important for an employer to be prepared to welcome a new recruit. At a previous firm where I did not have onboarding responsibility, I often had to pick up the slack and help a new team member find their desk. It was embarrassing. This is hugely important and so undervalued. How a new employee is treated from initial interview stage through the first few months of joining your company can be the difference between someone who stays with you for the next 20yrs of one who continues looking elsewhere and ultimately leaves in a short period. The knock on financial cost to the company through further recruitment. Awesome, that you are providing this guidance 👏

So important to get the first day right. It sets the perception of the company, and your value within it. That perception is so difficult to change. This is a great tool that all businesses should use / modify to ensure that initial success.

Send them a cleaning bill you know who they are from the passenger manifest better still don’t let them fly on your airline again
