Have you ever been bothered by the absence of proactive individuals driving change in the world? So did our founder, Peter Abegunde. Driven by a passion to cultivate a mindset of change among African youths, the World Changemakers Institute was born. In his own words, “The program was born out of the issues I faced personally as an 100L student. I was clueless about my career path; mentorship was lacking; I had little or no basic career skills; I knew nothing about capacity building, social impact and nation building. I was all on my own navigating Iife.   And when I see first and second year undergraduates go through this same thing, it breaks my heart. First and second year undergraduates in Nigeria must get it right, and they must get it early enough. This burden metamorphosised into the Institute.” Africa has a youthful population that should be well utilised in bringing growth and development to the continent. And this is our drive, to nurture the next generation of African changemakers, by equipping the youths with the change mindset and career skills and connecting them to global opportunities. 🌍 Insights from the Third Master Class of the Africa SDGs Mentorship Programme🌍 I'm excited to share my key takeaways from the third master class training for the SDG Africa Mentorship Programme, held on 25th May 2024 facilitated by Emmanuel Ola-Olowoyo . This session was an impactful dive into the importance and implementation of the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in both local and international contexts. Key Learnings: 1. UN 17 SDGs: The session emphasized the critical importance of the UN 17 SDGs and how they serve as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure peace and prosperity for all by 2030. 2. Roles and Responsibilities: The facilitator provided an in-depth analysis of the roles individuals and organizations play in achieving these goals. A thought-provoking question was asked: “What activity are you doing to ensure the achievement of the above?” 3. Educational Integration: Teachers were encouraged to incorporate the SDGs into their curriculum, aligning with the Agenda 2030 to inspire and educate the next generation on sustainable practices and global citizenship. One statement that stood out to me was: “Africa’s future lies in our hands, and through the SDGs, we have a blueprint to achieve sustainable development and prosperity.” This underscores the importance of collective effort and strategic planning in achieving our goals. Participating in this programme reinforces my commitment to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals across our continent. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow with such a dedicated community of changemakers. Looking forward to implementing these insights in my work and sharing more experiences with you all! Sustainability. Such a multifaceted domain. Let's walk the talk then. In my continued pursuit of knowledge in the Sustainability and Development sector, It was an honor and privilege to attend the fourth series by AIIDEV Africa. This session was majorly focused on Design thinking and innovation, particularly in the context of circular design thinking, which is critical for creating sustainable solutions that are economically viable and environmentally friendly. A few Takeaways I do believe you too, would love to learn... Circular Economy: It’s a system that aims to eliminate waste and promote the continual use of resources. Circular design thinking supports this by encouraging the creation of products and systems that are restorative and regenerative by design. Design Principles: Circular design thinking involves principles some being; designing out waste and pollution, keeping products and materials in use, and regenerating natural systems. Innovation Approach: Design thinking is an innovation approach that helps organizations solve complex problems. Holistic Perspective: Circular design thinking requires a holistic view that considers environmental, economic, and social dimensions, ensuring that solutions are sustainable and beneficial across multiple domains These highlight the importance of integrating circular design thinking into the innovation process to create solutions that are both creative, effective and sustainable for the long term. It is within context that I do believe, to achieve sustainability, we all need to rise up, arms in arms, to fight together, for a more better and resilient environment.

The ability to read with comprehension in itself is the greatest liberation tool we can give to our children, but it is even more important to support kids with skills for living and thriving, Skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, Collaboration, Negotiations etc. Follow Zizi Afrique Foundation to learn how we collaborate with 25 organizations in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania to promote these competencies. With three areas of interest. 1. Understanding these competencies -What are they? How do we unpack them (deconstruction of these constructs)? What is our contextual understanding? How are they defined in our education curricula? 2. Nurturing -How are they nurtured? What promising approaches exist in East Africa? What works in context? 3. Assessment - How can they be assessed-Formatively and summatively? What tools exist? Who is doing what globally? So far, we have developed scenario and performance-based assessment tools to assess problem-solving, collaboration, and self-awareness. We have assessed over 45,000 adolescents aged 13-17 years in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zanzibar. We have produced 5 reports for each jurisdiction and a regional comparative report. Dr. John Mugo steers this project.

SDGs-AMP WORKSHOP SERIES As a fellow in the SDGS mentorship program, it was a privilege to attend the workshop from the SDGs-AMP 2024 series-2, discussing AU and Africa’s Agenda 2063, which envisions a continent filled with limitless possibilities.  The session led by Keagetswe Alex Kgotlaetsile from the African Union under the leadership of AIIDEV Africa, highlighted transformative flagship projects aimed at integrating African countries through high-speed trade networks, promoting intra-African trade, and enabling free movement of people. The agenda includes initiatives like the Grand Inga Dam project for clean electricity, a single African Air Transport Market, and an annual African Economic Forum to harness the continent’s vast resources. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of cybersecurity, an African virtual university, and a Pan-African E-network to advance education and technology across Africa. The key highlights include but are not limited to: Agenda 2063’s transformative vision Key initiatives for integration Projects for sustainable development Advancements in technology and education As a bonus, I enjoyed learning more about the African Union Structure. As a big fan of SDGs, and a great enthusiast of SDG 11, aim to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable by 2030. The agenda, I was able to learn, is a great advancement of the agenda 2063 In all major aspects as I summarize below Urbanization and Inclusive Cities: Agenda 2063 envisions a transformed Africa with vibrant cities that are inclusive, safe, and resilient. SDG 11 aims to make cities inclusive, safe, and sustainable globally by 2030. Both emphasize the importance of well-planned, integrated urban areas. Infrastructure and Connectivity: Agenda 2063 focuses on flagship projects like high-speed trade networks and the African Continental Free Trade Area. SDG 11 emphasizes affordable and sustainable transport systems, which align with infrastructure development goals. Environmental Sustainability: Agenda 2063 includes projects that champions for clean electricity. SDG 11 aims to reduce the city's environmental impact, including waste management and air quality. Resilience and Disaster Risk Reduction: Both agendas recognize the need to protect cities from natural disasters and enhance resilience.  Agenda 2063 and SDG 11 converge in their vision for sustainable, well-connected, and resilient cities that benefit people and the environment. This Mentorship program has not only acted as a wake-up call for me as a Geospatial Graduate to rise and champion the advancement of the SDGs and Agenda 2063, but it has also opened an avenue for me to grow holistically as a professional and a pan-Africanist and to appreciate the role of AU in advancing growth of Africa as a continent.

Talking about SDGs and Sustainability... I was privileged to attend the ongoing mentorship program by AIIDEV Africa, series three, under the guidance of Adeola Adelugba and Emmanuel Ola-Olowoyo which focused mainly on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations. The central theme of the Workshop series revolved around the 17 SDGs. These global goals address critical challenges such as climate change, poverty, education, and health. By focusing on the SDGs, AIIDEV Africa emphasizes the importance of aligning individual efforts with broader global objectives. I was able to gain a deeper understanding of how their work contributes to a sustainable future. As a participant, I believe I have gained invaluable knowledge to take action and contribute meaningfully to achieving the SDGs. The success of SDGs and Africa Agenda 2063 requires a collaborative approach, where participants learn from each other and collectively work towards the SDGs. The initiative will foster a sense of shared responsibility and impact. I strongly believe this mentorship program plays a crucial role in shaping the next generation of leaders. By nurturing young professionals, the initiative ensures we are well-equipped to drive positive change in their communities. Through workshops, discussions, and community engagement, I, as a youth, young professional, and participant, not only gain knowledge but also develop leadership skills, fostering a network of like-minded individuals committed to achieving the SDGs.

AFRICA SDGs MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME (SDGs AMP) 3rd WORKSHOP: Emphasizing the UN 17 SDGs We dived into another impactful session of the Africa SDGs Mentorship Programme (SDGs AMP) during our 3rd workshop. The topic of the day centered on the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), their importance, and their implementation in both local and international contexts. Facilitator Emmanuel Ola-Olowoyo provided an in-depth analysis of the 17 UN SDGs, explaining their partitions and intended achievements. He emphasized the critical role of becoming SDGs advocates, both at home and in our workplaces. The facilitator encouraged teachers to incorporate the SDGs into their teaching (curriculum) and strive to achieve these goals by 2030, in alignment with Agenda 2030. A thought-provoking question posed by Emmanuel challenged us all: "What activities are you doing or plan to do to ensure the achievement of the UN 17 SDGs by 2030?" Ambitious project: inventing the #cities of tomorrow at #school 🏘️ ‘Building Sustainable, Learning and Inclusive Cities (SLICKS)’ project is a collaborative effort between the cities of #Kampala and a French city, funded by Agence française de développement in Eastern Africa It highlights the importance of international educational exchange as a means to address pressing global challenges and cultivate an open-minded international society, especially in countries with a increased young population as in #Uganda From France to Uganda, cities encounter similar challenges, including pollution and the lack of green spaces. These are also two main priorities of this technical and political cooperation between both countries, that starts in September 2022 for a duration of 28 months.
