Here’s an interesting read on natural gas: The Frackers is a non-fiction book written by Gregory Zuckerman. The book, published in 2013, explores the American energy industry in-depth, focusing on the individuals who played a pivotal role in the shale oil and gas revolution. The book primarily centres around a group of independent energy entrepreneurs, who were referred to as "wildcatters" because of the significant risks they took in employing innovative drilling techniques to unlock vast reserves of oil and natural gas trapped in shale formations deep underground. There have always been Oil and Gas leaders in technology and innovation, such as Mitchell/Devon Energy & Whiting, who might be next to find the better way forward?   We remember, those over 40 years old, when Mitchell/Devon Energy started this whole unconventional play in the Barnett Shale. That was the biggest change seen in a couple generations in our industry. I remember in 2017 how things were done in the Bakken. Over 65% of wells were completed with uncemented liners. Then Whiting did a comparison versus plug and perf (outside of the norm, trying new things). They found that the cemented plug and perf jobs created good isolation and increased production. Within six months all the followers changed and over 65% of all wells were completed using cemented casing, plug and perf. It appears perforating has been taken to its extreme limit. Maybe that’s why they named it “extreme limited entry” lol. So this is a technique which improves the 50%-80% perf efficiency the industry has experienced for 15 years. Let’s think about it…instead of uniformly perforating an entire interval and getting good frac distribution and good inflow potential for production, let’s put one hole in the reservoir that’s just the same reservoir 150’ away that you have eight holes. I like to say “choke to frac, choke to produce”. Is there actually an equal distribution of acid, pad, each proppant ramp, going into each of these perforations?? So many wells today are not producing to their potential. I think some are starting to think about going to single point entry frac once again. The good thing is now it is available in a cemented option. There are many examples that show this technique to have the best production results and is now even affordable. So, who is going to be the next innovative operator to reap the benefits and have everyone else follow??
