Off the Beaten Path Following up on our post from Tuesday, Reese Energy Consulting today is following news from producers who are finding oil and gas magic on the fringes of core-basin plays. In an article earlier this month, Hart Energy featured Denver-based Bayswater Exploration and Production, which aside from its assets in the DJ and Powder River, also operates 48,000 acres in the Permian’s Northern Midland. Here, targeting the Wolfcamp and Spraberry, Bayswater is striking paydirt the farther east it explores. Call it extending the extensions. With a strategy to develop tier-2 acreage positions that could ultimately deliver tier-1 performance, the company first went to work in Howard County, Texas, near Mitchell County, where high levels of carbonates comprised of limestone and dolomite have tended to discourage drilling. Not so for Bayswater, which discovered a rich hydrocarbon environment in the carbonate/shale reservoir, completing its first well in 2021 with initial production of nearly 1.3 MBPD and cumulative production of 430+ Mbbls. Now three years later, Bayswater has moved farther east into Mitchell County, reporting even higher production and drilling six more 2.5-mile laterals with completions slated this summer. Speaking of step outs, gas producers Comstock Resources and Aethon Energy continue their “victory is mine” exploration and development of the Western Haynesville—an extension now aptly christened Waynesville. Aethon, whose newest well in Robertson County, Texas, produced nearly 3.3 BCF in the first four months of production last fall, can’t get enough of Wayne’s world and is now on the hunt for more. What do you think? In an exclusive interview (https://lnkd.in/eVFze84n) with Bart Joppe, Baker Hughes underscores the critical need to extract more from mature oil and gas assets. Let’s explore why this direction matters and how it impacts today’s energy markets: 1. 𝐌𝐚𝐱𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐱𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬: • 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐬 𝐐𝐮𝐨: Abandoning mature wells prematurely can be costly. Baker Hughes suggests leveraging cutting-edge technologies to extend the life of these assets. • 𝐇𝐲𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲: By introducing Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOC) methods and facility management innovations, operators can significantly improve hydrocarbon recovery rates. This supports better utilization of existing facilities and infrastructure. 2. 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐏𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐆𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠: • 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐓𝐰𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐰 𝐏𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐬: Surface multiphase pumping technology, using timed twin screw pumps, allows for lower gathering and wellhead pressure. This results in better well inflow and improved working conditions for downhole pumps and plungers. • 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐇𝐆 𝐄𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: Multiphase gathering and boosting simplifies facility and process equipment, contributing to overall lower greenhouse gas emissions by eliminating flaring and venting. Baker Hughes’ recommendation of extracting value from mature assets aligns with the industry’s drive toward sustainability and efficiency. By embracing new advanced solutions, we can optimize production while minimizing environmental impact. Orphan Well Plugging! ALL Consulting is excited to be working with CSR Services,LLC to successfully implement effective well plugging initiatives in Ohio! ALL’s staff is assisting with “Boots on the Ground” in physical well plugging operations *and* also using our equipment, such as our OGI equipment, to simply document the presence of emissions prior to plugging options being initiated. On a side note… Because everyone loves history! Ohio (one of Dan Arthur, P.E., SPEC, CPG, FGS’s very favorite States) is somewhat of a unique State as it was used as a sort of an “experiment” in developing Land Grid systems back when Thomas Jefferson was President! It was Ohio where the “rectangular land grid system” started and the state has more than a dozen different land grids! The First State Geolgist of Ohio was savvy enough to start numbering all of the oil & gas wells he could find in the state very early on. So Dr. Pepper (the first State Geologist) gave each well a “Pepper Number” and this has really helped the Ohio Department of Natural Resources with at least tracking “many” of the “Documented” Orphan Wells in the state.
