We often think that those in higher positions make decisions on our behalf—decisions that are sometimes unpopular or even harmful. However, we are the ones who elect them, and thus we hold the real power. They should be making decisions for us, not instead of us. Your vote does matter! 🇪🇺 We are responsible for choosing representatives to defend our interests in the European Parliament. Their work is crucial for both us and society as a whole. Voting is a powerful tool to ensure that your voice is heard in the political process. It’s an opportunity to influence decisions that directly impact your life and are most important to you. Decisions made by the European Parliament affect education, employment, diversity, gender equality, healthcare, climate change, digital rights, and more. 💪🏻 By voting, you contribute to building a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable Europe. So please, don’t stay at home on the 8th of June—cast your vote for our future.

Please do not speak principles that you do not align with your actions. We often consider ourselves fortunate to encounter individuals who not only speak about but actively advocate for a variety of life principles, including peace, human rights, gender equality, empowerment, environmental conservation, participatory approach, and advocacy for our rights. These concepts carry significant meaning, fostering respect for those who impart them to us. However, when the occasion arises for us to defend these principles to those who taught them to us, we find ourselves occasionally mistaken and, at other times, ungrateful, as we strive to uphold these values. The challenge becomes more pronounced when their beliefs deviate from the ideals expressed in their speeches and commitments. To those with misleading and insincere rhetoric, please refrain from discussing principles you do not embrace. Such words become mere tools for securing specific remuneration and funds or establishing connections to fulfill personal needs and interests. The human mind grapples with understanding, and fragile hearts cannot thrive in an environment saturated with hollow words devoid of practical application. Moreover, to those who empowered and trusted us, and gave us the freedom to speak up and advocate for our rights, you are our support system and you will be forever.

This reminded me of the equal vs. fair / equality vs. equity meme. They are not the same. How would you define these terms and how they are different? Comment below! Brie Fraley, thanks for posting the inclusion vs. equity image - both are important in education!

A young person asked me to post this on their behalf a they don’t feel safe to post it. Enough is Enough, Safety and Equality Shouldn't Be a Luxury I was supposed to walk to my tuition today, but I ended up canceling because, as a 16-year-old, I should have to feel unsafe in a country that claims to preach equality. I am now left to feel like the only safe space is to lock myself in the house hearing the horror stories going on .. it’s disgraceful that I’m left questioning whether a country that preaches equality is actually safe for its young people. Our streets are a daily reminder that the promise of equality is a an actual joke. The Equality Act 2010 was supposed to put an end to discrimination based on race, gender, or background. Yet, here we are, amidst chaos and riots, questioning whether those are just words on paper. seeing that this act is nothing but empty words, As I can’t even walk to my own tuition ! I shouldn’t have to wonder if it’s safe to walk in my own neighborhood. I shouldn’t have to feel that the world around me is divided by hate and fear. The laws that are supposed to protect us are failing. We need more than just assurances; we need action and real change. As young people, we are demanding more than just lip service. We deserve a society where equality and safety are not privileges but basic rights. we ALL deserve better. We deserve a future where the values of equality and justice are more than just ideals—they’re our everyday reality. It’s time to stop accepting the status quo. We need to hold those in power accountable and make sure that equality isn’t just a slogan but a reality we live every day. #YouthVoices #Equality #Justice #HumanRights #EqualityAct2010

Professor Roberta Guerrina shares how her spinout company EQUAL In-sight works with employers to embed equality and inclusion in their practices and build a fairer future. EQUAL In-sight is a first for the @BristolUni – the first spinout company to come out of the social sciences, demonstrating the impact research from social sciences can have in the world. Roberta and her team work with organisations to identify the gaps in social networks, policy and governance that engrain inequalities. By identifying these gaps, their experts can use social science methods to interpret the systems that lead to issues like gender pay gaps and inequalities in progression, retention, promotion and training. It's Race Equality Week! This year's theme is #ListenActChange, urging us to listen, take action, and be the change. Here are some ideas for educators: *Listen to your students and colleagues of colour. *Seek to understand their experiences. *Examine your own biases and blindspots through deep listening. *Diversify the authors and perspectives shared in the classroom. Amplify unheard voices. *Have open discussions with students about race, privilege, oppression. Equip them to think critically. *Advocate for policy changes that promote equality and inclusion. Act collectively. *Support affinity groups and clubs centring students of colour. Make space for their voices. *Uplift and hire more educators of colour. Strive for representative diversity. Let's keep using our power to drive change towards racial justice. The future we build starts in your classrooms. ✊🏾✊🏽✊🏿 #ListenActChange #RaceEqualityWeek #RacialJustice #SocialJustice #Diversity #Inclusion #Equity #Education #StandTogether #TakeAction #TimeForChange #Solidarity #SayTheirNames #BlackLivesMatter #DoTheWork #DiverseBooks #culturallyresponsiveteaching

Human Rights Day (December 10th) is an important reminder that the journey to universal human rights is ongoing. As I reflect on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, I feel grateful to the courageous women and men who advocated for this foundational document. It established crucial concepts like equal dignity and justice for all people regardless of identity or status. However, the vision of the Declaration has still not been fully realized around the world. Basic human rights like freedom from discrimination, fair working conditions, and free speech continue to be denied to marginalized communities. Issues like poverty, lack of access to education, and gender inequality persist globally. There is still so much work to be done. Progress takes all of us working together across diverse experiences and beliefs to build connection and achieve the vision outlined decades ago – one of freedom, justice and peace for all people. I believe in that vision and in our collective power to achieve it. Join me in recommitting to advocate for dignity, justice, and equal opportunity in our workplaces and communities. "To deny people their human rights is to challenge their very humanity." - Nelson Mandela #humanrights #eeoc #deia #civilrights #awareness #diversityandinclusion
December 10th marks Human Rights Day (https://lnkd.in/g9HMHg-F), commemorating the day in 1948 when the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). This seminal document outlined the fundamental rights and freedoms that all human beings are entitled to, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Human Rights Day provides an important opportunity for all of us to reflect on the progress made in upholding these universal human rights, while also acknowledging the work still needed. In many parts of the world, people continue to face discrimination, persecution, and lack of basic freedoms and dignity. Issues like poverty, access to education, gender equality, fair working conditions, arbitrary detention, and free speech remain ongoing human rights challenges. As we mark Human Rights Day, it is important to consider how these ideals apply not only globally but also locally in our workplace. Here at the Office Of Inclusion and Civil Rights, NOAA, our mission is to establish and maintain programs that uphold equal employment opportunity and diversity/inclusion by complying with laws that protect human rights. Our vision is to be a model organization that embraces human rights as a core value. By reflecting on how human rights apply to our organization, we reaffirm our commitment to protecting the dignity and equality of all people. Learning about human rights issues and the struggles faced by marginalized groups in our communities and around the world help us to advocate for policies and programs that will expand rights and opportunities. We can have compassion for those treated unfairly and dedicate ourselves to making a difference in whatever ways we can. The declaration of human rights was a major milestone, but the journey to make these rights a reality for everyone continues. Researcher and Project Manager in International Education and Development. Expertise in Girls' Education, Youth transitions and Managing Development Projects.
Being a Researcher in International Education and Development has opened my eyes to so many societal ills that incapacitate women and undermine their capabilities. While I acknowledge the progress that has been made towards achieving equality, I believe that more still needs to be, and can be done to strengthen women's agency, i.e. their ability to pursue and achieve what they value.Strengthening women's agency will take collective effort, internationally, regionally, nationally and locally. It will take both men and women coming together to realise that equality means both men and women win. It will take boys and girls being taught to respect each other from a young age. It will take civil societies and local communities committing to the agenda of equality. It will take governments being intentional about empowering and supporting women. EVERYONE must be involved. If there will be any real change for women, we must all move from rhetoric to action, because our words mean nothing if our actions don't follow.Happy International Women's Day - Dr.JD
