What happened this weekend was a grotesque, unprovoked terrorist attack on innocent civilians far outside the bounds of traditional warfare. It was specifically targeted at peaceful Israeli men, women and children because they are Jewish. It was meant to induce terror. It has no place in civilized society and should be called out for what it is immediately without equivocation. Full stop. I don’t think it really matters what side of the Israel / Palestine issue you are on – it is a deeply nuanced, historically complex and multi-faceted geopolitical issue with centuries of historical context. I would never pretend to be an expert on it. However, I do know that what the world witnessed this weekend is beyond the pale by any definition, and there can be no justification for it. I have been in touch with Israeli founders and members of the tech community over the weekend – as always, they are brave, resolute and clear eyed even under such assault. My wife has very close family on a kibbutz right in the middle of southern Israel where the terrorism began. These are objectively some of the most peace loving, kind and open minded people I have ever broken bread with in my life. What they and others like them are living through is ugly and barbaric. There are countless stories and heart wrenching videos of elderly people, children and young women ripped from their homes and killed or taken hostage. The world must pay attention and ensure that these innocent civilians are rescued from under Hamas’ captivity and returned home swiftly and safely. To the extent you have Jewish family and friends here or around the world, reach out to them if you haven’t already. While you may feel you don’t know what to say, not saying anything is felt very strongly. Do what you can to make sure what is happening stays at the front of our collective consciousness until there is a resolution. Donate to humanitarian organizations if you are able to do so. Here is one that I know does admirable work – I am sure there are many others. Magen David Adom (Jewish Red Cross) - https://afmda.org/

Today is World TB Day, I have already donated to the cause and here is why you should too. Tuberculosis is the #1 infectious killer worldwide, with about 1.5 million people succumbing to this disease annually despite being *entirely curable*. TB's death toll and infection rates paint a stark picture of global health disparities. TB has been nearly entirely eradicated from the western world, with incidence and death rates in the developing world reaching as far as 40X higher than the western world. For example, in countries like Lesotho, the TB incidence rate reaches as high as 614 per 100,000 people, reflecting an alarming public health situation, while in counties like the US and the UK they are 2.6 and 6.3 respectively. And this is before getting into disparities in access to proper treatment. All this while it is shown that $5 investments in TB care and prevention lead to $43 economical benefit - but not necessarily for the people benefiting financially from the drug currently It is also estimated that around 3-4 million people a year go undiagnosed and not officially reported due to lack of access to healthcare, diagnoses, or stigmas involved with the disease. Each year an infection goes undiagnosed, the disease spreads to between 5 and 15 more people. TB is at the forefront of the battle against antibiotic resistance, contributing significantly to this growing threat. This highlights the need for sustained efforts in research, better healthcare practices, and stronger regulations around antibiotic use. Recent efforts for advocacy and donation have been exceedingly effectively. Johnson & Johnson reacted to an advocacy campaign announcing they will not enforce secondary patents for the drug Bedaquiline used to treat drug-resistent TB - dropping the price by nearly 50%. Cepheid - a test manufacturer lowered the price of tests from $10 to $7, and committee to zero-profit in poor countries. It is possible for us to stop TB related deaths entirely. So while I almost never post things like this - I encourage everyone who can to donate what they can today towards eradicating TB globally. On a zoom call just now, our founder Eli Beer truly summed up what is happening in Israel today. "This is the worst day of my life" Shabbat morning at 6:20 am Israel was targeted by Hamas terrorists who crossed its border, infiltrating 25 towns, resulting in many killed, people kidnapped, and hundreds injured. At the same time, thousands of rockets were launched into Israel, reaching Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. A state of war has been declared by Israel's Defense Minister. In this state of emergency - unlike anything Israel has experienced since the Yom Kippur War - Israel needs your urgent support. We are launching an emergency appeal to raise funds for desperately needed supplies to provide our volunteers with the equipment they need to save lives and the protective equipment to keep themselves safe. The goal of the campaign is to raise $10 million to equip an additional 1,000 United Hatzalah volunteers with protective vests and helmets, oxygen tanks, defibrillators, trauma bandages, and tourniquets. These supplies can be ordered and delivered over the course of the next week to ensure that UH volunteers have everything they need to respond to the ongoing attacks. Our medics are on the front line and in need of support and reinforcements as they respond to lifesaving calls. The time is now. Your support is critical to ensure the safety of our volunteers and the people of Israel. This is the emergency campaign page to support re-supplying our volunteers with the medical equipment they need to save lives over the coming weeks. https://lnkd.in/eq_cEC9k

One of the largest concerns some have with the Israel-Hamas war is how to help children in Gaza. We all care about these children, but know Hamas steals humanitarian aid sent to Gaza and uses it for terrorism. Including donations sent from people in other countries trying to help children. I've been ruminating on this issue because like any other ethical person, I think it's great to help save children. But (also like any other ethical person) I think it's not great to financially support terrorists. I just heard about an excellent nonprofit operating out of Israel, which provides pediatric cardiac care to a large number of children from Gaza. Bonus, their donations don't get stolen by Hamas! From their website: "Approximately 50% of the children are from the Palestinian Authority and Gaza, Iraq, and Morocco, more than 40% are from Africa, and the remainder are from Asia, Eastern Europe, and the Americas." They also provide training to Palestinian doctors and doctors from various other places where appropriate pediatric cardiac care is scarce (or non-existent). If you want to help children in Gaza without worrying your money ends up in Hamas' hands, donate to Save a Child's Heart here: https://lnkd.in/ezzfvadj

As the General Election approaches, we're urging the next UK Government to take decisive action to ensure 24/7 access, and protection, of helipads at Major Trauma Centres and specialist hospitals across the UK. 24/7 access to an on-site helipad at a Major Trauma Centre and/or specialist hospital removes the need for secondary land transfers, ensuring critically ill patients receive optimum speed to treatment, day or night. For many seriously ill patients, this could represent the difference between life and death. Almost all hospital helipads are classified as unlicensed heliports and aerodromes, lacking formal safeguards. Additionally, air ambulance charities are not currently listed as consultees in planning conversations with UK-wide NHS authorities or Local Planning Authorities. This hinders the air ambulance communities’ ability to stay informed and be involved in decision-making processes regarding lifesaving critical care. If you agree that these issues need tackling, you can add your voice to our open letter to the next UK Prime Minister: https://lnkd.in/eBT5mUkU #AirAmbulances #HosptialHelipads #EmergencyCare #CriticalCare #SavingMoreLivesTogether #GeneralElection

The situation in Israel is a matter of utmost urgency. We all are seeing the most horrific and gut-wrenching crisis in Israel's 75-year history. The barbaric loss of over 1200 lives in a mere four days and the 200 children, women, the elderly, soldiers, and officers held hostage in Gaza, defies comprehension. Each heartbreaking story in Israel strikes at the core of our being. Recognizing that the brave men and women of the IDF represent our sole lifeline to restore security and stability in Israel, a generous donor is offering a $1,000,000 emergency campaign challenge in which they will match dollar-for-dollar all emergency funds raised. Essential financial support has truly never been more imperative - and is also time sensitive. The IDF is seeking our support to help fund mission-critical needs including temporary field hospitals, intensive care ambulances, plasma for the wounded, medical equipment like ECG machines, and much more. All this is needed TODAY. We hope this match will inspire you to help us in doing everything we can for our soldiers who are facing the fight of their lives. https://lnkd.in/ev_g2wU2 #IDF #FIDF #SupportIsrael #IsraelUnderAttack #WarinIsrael #IsraelSolders

The past days have been unimaginably harrowing. As financial analysts, we are trained to deal with numbers, scenarios, and extreme uncertainty. Yet nothing could have prepared me for the horrific images emerging from the October 7 attack to Israel— a savage genocide of innocent children, babies, women, and the elderly. With a broken heart and tears streaming down my face, I've seen images and heard official reports of young women brutally violated, toddlers mercilessly caged, decapitated, and elders shot and burnt alive. Like millions of others, I am engulfed by a whirlwind of emotions: confusion, shock, profound sadness, raging anger, and an overwhelming sense of helplessness. Fear grips my heart as I think of my family and friends in Israel. Every notification, every news alert sends shivers down my spine. The world can sometimes be a dark place, but amidst that darkness, we must search for the light. Now is the time to reflect, to unite, and most importantly, to act. We must pray for peace, for understanding, and for a better tomorrow. But prayers must also be complemented with action. To my Jewish and non-Jewish friends alike, if you value humanity and dignity, you can help. Please consider donating any amount to support humanitarian efforts in Israel. Now, more than ever, we need to come together as a beacon of hope. We recommend the two following non-profit organizations to which we are contributing. Magen David Adom - this is the equivalent of the Red Cross in Israel, providing medical response and treatment to all injured and ill people in Israel: https://afmda.org Pitchon Lev - this organization provides food and assistance to poor and displaced people in Israel: https://lnkd.in/eccJ9EzX
