Today we’ve unveiled ‘The River Within’, a new, long-term programme to preserve and protect the health of some of Scotland’s iconic rivers and waterways. We like to think there is a river within every dram of whisky. Each of our distilleries is built on the banks of a renowned Scottish river. We draw from these waters and from them our whiskies are born. Just as we rely on the rivers, the rivers rely on us. Today climate change is disrupting the delicate balance of our terroir, threatening the rich diversity of life in and around the waters of Scotland. This is why we’re taking action with three charitable trusts: The Deveron, Bogie and Isla Rivers Charitable Trust, Findhorn Watershed Initiative and Spey Catchment Initiative to safeguard and restore the waters, banks, and burns that give our whisky life. We’re almost at our £1billion target in legacy income for charities! So today we're hearing from our partners at Surfers Against Sewage (SAS). Lizzie Cresswell and Franka Fueller built out their first first successful legacy campaigns for SAS with Farewill. Dorka Voicu, their account manager, tells us how much she enjoyed working with the team, and how good it was to see them getting confident with the demographic data provided through Spotlight, our industry-leading dashboard. Highlighting the Differences While both RNLI and National Independent Lifeboat Association share a common mission of saving lives at sea, there are differences worth noting. So it's just a pumpkin contest, right? Nope. It starts as a team-building exercise where we all have fun and do not talk about insurance for a bit. Then it becomes office banter, where each tease each other about who will win the contest. Again, sometimes it's the little things that bond and help create foundations. Peat, soils apparently accumulate at 1mm per year. With that calculation it means that 1m of peat took approximately 1000 years to form. Peat is such an essential part of the ecosystem that the UK government has introduced a ban on the sale of bagged peat compost, which is popular very popular for container gardens due to its excellence water retention properties. The ban on all peat-based gardening products will be expected to take effect by 2030. It's time to look for sustainable alternatives and protect this essential resource.
