On today's 45th anniversary of the 1978 Pregnancy Discrimination Act, the landmark law amending Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to protect employees from discrimination based on pregnancy, childbirth, or pregnancy-related conditions, we're reminded of how proud of the work we've done to move Minnesota even further towards equity. This year, the rights of pregnant and parenting workers have been strengthened in our state. Under the previous law, employees were only entitled to paid breaks to pump breast milk up to twelve months following the birth of a child. That arbitrary time limit has been lifted. Moreover, employers are obligated to provide a lactation space that is clean, private, and secure. No more pumping in bathroom stalls or broom closets! #PDA45

September 26 is World Contraception Day 😎 To celebrate, SEX-ED + is making various contraceptive methods available for 3D printing! I take this opportunity to reflect on projects related to sexual health, who lead them and why it would be important to have a better transmission of needs and informations between the practical and theoretical branches of our professional field. You can read more here: https://lnkd.in/ebsBhF2G We'd like to take this opportunity to thank the people and organizations who made this possible: Odile Fillod, the Cité des sciences et de l'industrie, and Patricia Larue of La Clinique des femmes de l'Outaouais and Fabien LAGIER de 3D PreciScan. It's a pleasure to bring to fruition a project that took 6 years to complete, but the idea here is not to pat ourselves on the back, but rather to turn our gaze to the institutions and collectively ask ourselves a few questions: why don't our universities, our research centres, take charge of creating the materials we need to work in sexual health? Why don't they entrust these projects to salaried staff with the skills to do so? Why don't the needs of the field come to our institutions? How can we break down the barriers between research and practice, and give ourselves the means to create the tools our communities need? Why is the majority of sexuality education material produced by volunteers/passionates/enthusiasts who are fed up with the lack of progress? Food for thoughts. #3Dprint #3dscan #reprohealth #sexualhealth #contraception #contraceptive #worldcontraceptionday #positivesexed #IUD #pill #condom #ring

Invisible disabilities and access needs (such as injuries!) can be acquired by anyone at any point of our lives. Be. Accessibility Programme Lead, Lauren shares a personal story of when her two eldest children were toddlers, and she was recovering from hip surgery. Lauren says, “I had hip surgery on both hips when I was 30. I was told by my surgeon to walk as little as possible for the first 4 to 6 months of recovery. As a mother of a 2- and 3-year-old at the time, this was extremely difficult! For the first month I was aided using crutches, and as I got more comfortable, I was able to walk without crutches. I was granted a mobility parking permit, so I could park as close as possible to the office, supermarket and other key areas I needed to access weekly. I remember once parking at the supermarket with my two toddlers, and I wasn’t using my crutches. I got the most awful disapproving stares from people because I didn’t fit the description of someone expected to park in a mobility car park, which made me feel really judged – even though I had a permit! People with hidden disabilities or injuries can be reluctant to take support for fear of judgment. Invisible disability awareness week is a great time to reconsider what we think being ‘disabled’ looks like. #IDAW2023 #HiddenDisability #InvisibleDisabilities
