Last year, 4 Berlin residents were awarded the Madeline Amy Sweeney Award for heroically saving a 79-year-old woman from a burning home. Every year, in commemoration of September 11th and the heroic actions taken by American Airlines flight attendant Madeline "Amy" Sweeney, the Commonwealth recognizes acts of bravery shown by Massachusetts residents in the face of imminent danger. If you know anyone who has demonstrated exceptional bravery, nominate them using the QR code above by July 26.

Yesterday was a significant moment. Senior decision makers from across the Aviation industry in one room being educated on the real-world challenges faced by those travelling by air with mobility/accessibility requirements, but more important than that, actively engaging with the issue and working towards collective solutions. Onwards! A brief excerpt from the article: Ireland is a leader in so many areas of global aviation that it should take the lead, too, on making planes more accessible to everybody. “We have the real capacity to change things just with people in the room today. We can significantly move the needle,”. “The essence of what business is, is about innovating and problem solving to meet the needs of customers. Awareness always precedes change. When people are not aware of the real impact a problem has on people, they can’t provide a solution. Today was about explaining the problem, the next step is about solving it.” Thank you to Irelandia Aviation dec ryan for hosting and Tom Lyons at The Currency for profiling the discussion. #aviation #accessibility #universaldesign #innovation
Making airplanes more accessible: “We can significantly move the needle” I was at a great talk yesterday by Jack Kavanagh in the offices of Irelandia Aviation about making airplanes more accessible to people with mobility difficulties. The below is from our interview afterwards in The Currency where he makes some very important points and explains why this needs to happen. dec ryan, Paul Hayes, John S. Broker and Owner of Philly Luxe Realty/ Founder and CEO of Shafir's Journey nonprofit/ Advocate for Children with spinal cord injuries.
There is a true disparity and leads to a lack of being able to or lack of wanting to travel for people that have disabilities especially those experiencing spinal cord injuries. My son and I have experienced this first hand. Our family travels extensively, after my son’s injury we did not want to exclude him or have to cancel our family trips. The airlines did not have an aisle chair waiting for him, although I made it clear in my reservation and spoke with an agent when I checked our bags. They had to order an aisle chair so that he could be taken onto the plane and down the aisle. The gate agent was not happy about having to make this accommodation. Thanks to our wonderful PT and OT team we were prepared for leaving the wheelchair at the gate. We removed his pressure relieving cushion and any other items that could get lost or broken on the chair. Which saved all of us a headache and allowed my son to be more comfortable on the plane ride with his pressure relieving cushion. A change needs to happen with the airlines. People with physical disabilities should not have to give up a fundamental right of traveling, seeing the world and becoming a globally conscious citizen because they are afraid of having such an incremental and medically necessary part of their lives lost or destroyed. Make airline aisles accessible to wheelchairs to make travel easier on anyone with a physical disability and airline workers. #disabilityjustice #disabilityawareness #disabilitypride #childrenscharity #childrenwithdisabilities #makeadifference
"The airlines don't understand that I need my chair. It's a part of my everyday world, my everyday life. I need it like I need water," says United Spinal member, Shannon Minnick. Join us in making a change in airline accessibility: https://lnkd.in/gTGGAbC6

He just became an Airline Captain! 👏💙 At 26-years old, Justin Mutawassim just became an Airline Captain at Delta Air Lines. His fascination with aviation began when he went on first flight from New York City to Orlando at 5 years old. The pilots let Justin check out the flight deck and he fell in love with airplanes ever since. He started working as a ramp agent for Delta Air Lines and eventually found his mentor Ivor Martin, an Alaska Airlines captain. His mentor helped him reach his dreams of finally becoming a pilot. Justin writes: “Don’t give up on those dreams. No matter how old you are, you can always try.” This story is powerful because you never know who can inspire you on your journey. 📸 (Courtesy of Justin Mutawassim & Delta Air Lines)

There have been no changes or improvements made to commercial aircraft accessibility for the mobility disabled since that photo was taken. Most in the disabled community are keenly awaiting news from Delta’s subsidiary Delta Flight Products about what is happening to the wheelchair space seating system it is helping develop? Is there any news ? Will Delta work with Boeing and Airbus on its implementation as per https://chng.it/XLVWt2Ls5y ? #aviation #aircraft #airlines #AccessiblityMatters #WheelchairSpotsOnAirplanes #AccessibleTravel #Wheelchair #Disabled #DisabledTravel #Accessible #Disability #WheelchairLife #Travel #Traveling #Aviation #Airplane #Airplanes #Transport #AirTravel #Wheelchairs #Transportation #AccessibleTourism
In March 1940, Delta’s first stewardesses began to serve on 14-passenger DC-2 aircraft. 84 years later, and our flight attendants continue to set the standard. Share a memory with your favorite Delta Flight Attendant/s in the comments.

This interview on the Dublin Airport passenger cap issue for business aviation is well worth listening to. The International business aviation associations have asked for 20,000 of the current 32 million passengers be allocated for business aviation. It's a simple solution which would solve an enormous problem for business jet operators. #aviation #nbaa #ebaa #ibac #airtravel #businessaviation #bizav #dublinairport #ireland
Dublin Airport is a popular gateway for business aircraft operators flying to Ireland and the rest of Europe. However, local authorities have proposed drastic steps to curtail operations at the airport, which could have severe ramifications for business aviation if a current cap on annual passenger counts isn’t raised.
