Fortnite (https://lnkd.in/dVpdnu36 seasonal Halloween event, Fortnitemares, kicks off today (October 10), and players have plenty to get excited about, including some new weapons, free quest rewards, and some spooky crossover skins. As outlined in a new post (https://lnkd.in/drPT-nNH) on the Fortnite website, the Pumpkin Launcher weapon and Witch Broom are rising from the dead, with the latter being another mobility item which can be used to launch users into the air and gently glide back down. Two totally new weapons are available, too - the Wood Stake Shotgun (which can be found in chests) and Thorne’s Vampiric Blade (obtained by defeating the boss NPC Kado Thorne), which will heal its user when they damage an enemy, allowing them to channel their inner Malenia from Elden Ring (https://lnkd.in/d8GQZKuJ). There are plenty of new quests to complete - while they all grant XP, completing set amounts of them will also unlock those aforementioned free rewards. Finishing off five will unlock the Cat banner icon and Bat Royale back bling, while bringing that number up to 15 will grant players the Hypno-Bat spray, Phantasmic fall contrail and ‘Sweet!’ emote. So, it is time! 🗺️🧙♂️⚔️ To celebrate the launch of Hades II, I felt it would be a great moment to take a deep dive into the the very origins of the rogue-like genre. 🔍 Rogue, was released in 1980. More than 40 years ago! The game had it all: a procedural maze like map, ennemy diversity, loot, progressive difficulty, and permadeath. The most fascinating is the variety of the features that were made available. For instance, here are a few of the keybinds: W: Wear or wield an item R: Remove an item D: Drop an item I: View inventory E: Eat food Q: Quaff a potion T: Throw an object Z: Zap a wand S: Search for hidden doors or traps I think there are three types of video games: 1 - Industry Defining Games: those are titles that have created a whole genre. Rogue (1980), Super Mario Bros (1985), Street Fighter (1987) are some of them. 2 - Industry Breaking Games: games that take an existing formula and put a twist on it. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (2017), PUBG (2017), or for example that upcoming hyper-realistic FPS game we are working tirelessly on 😝 (202X) 3 - Industry Following Games: games that thrive in existing game genres and niches. Digging into Rogue in 2024 is breathtaking, the range and depth of the systems and replayability is stunning. Here's a video game that makes me wish I had a gaming PC! 😍 Nightingale by Inflexion Games launches into Early Access from tomorrow. The trailers and gameplay I've seen so far have me very excited! Are you excited for this game? At a glance, here's what we can expect: - Open-world survival - Cool steampunk fantasy setting, think Elden Ring but it's colourful and bright - Awesome creature designs that would make Guillermo Del Toro smile - Magic, fancy umbrellas and the option of guns or melee weapons - Multi-player setting I mean, come on.
