A brilliant technical deeper dive into the sizing and development of a hydraulic Drag Reduction System (DRS) used in F1. A typical active DRS surface actuates fully open in just 0.1 seconds, thanks to the advantages and power density of hydraulic motion control. Moog E024 servo-valves weigh just 95g !
Excitement is building as we eagerly await the grand unveiling of the Formula 1 teams' 2024 cars! 🏎️ While we count down the days, why not dive into a fascinating exploration of the DRS Hydraulic System? Inspired by the architectural brilliance of the Redbull RB19, this system posed challenges for opponents throughout the last season. A heartfelt thanks to Luca Giotti for being an invaluable collaborator in bringing this insightful study to fruition. 🏁 #Formula1 #DRSHydraulicSystem #RedbullRB19 #F1Insights #TeamworkMakesTheDreamWork

The varied wing approach that shows Monza remains an F1 outlier https://lnkd.in/ebCdjF5T It should come as no shock that Formula 1 cars look very different at Monza this weekend compared to Zandvoort, as teams switch to low downforce/drag solutions. While there are other high-speed tracks on the F1 calendar, the ‘Temple of Speed’ remains an outlier because so much of it is straights, and this necessitates a standalone downforce package. But the approach of teams is not uniform, as some have gone the extra mile in delivering a new package while others, perhaps limited by the cost cap, have made some more ad hoc tweaks.

The 2023 Mexican Grand Prix Tech magazine is out! This week, Fulvio Conti and I analyzed McLaren's lack of aerodynamic efficiency. In particular, we talked about the two aerodynamic coefficients: CX and CZ. As the Mexican track requires a good braking system, we also highlighted how every team has worked on brake cooling, which utilises air - compared to that of the past that used water. You can read the full magazine at the following link: #F1 #MexicoGP
