🔊 On day one of #SubseaWorld 2024 we have heard from industry leaders across cable operators, suppliers, government and research. 💡 Our Head of Research - James Netherwood key takeaways from the conference so far are: 1 - We will see increasing diversification of subsea routes, as data centres move beyond core markets in order to secure cost-effective power supplies. 2 - The role of government in funding subsea infrastructure projects will likely increase, as the EU pushes for connectivity for all. Governments are also pushing Smart cables for civil protection and climate research. 3 - Even as the first commercial smart cables start to be launched, the use cases required for them to be revenue-generating have not yet emerged. 4 - The threats to critical subsea infrastructure are growing and holistic approach is needed to mitigate the risk, from establishing secure landing stations and data centres to building more geographically diverse routes. 5 - The ongoing challenges in the Red Sea are a catalyst for increased resiliency and development of diverse terrestrial routes. 👉🏽 We look forward to seeing you tomorrow for Day Two!
