One of my biggest takeaways from the Rise and Lead Women events this year is the importance of having a career sponsor for career advancement. Yes, a career sponsor, not to be confused with a career mentor. If you have worked hard and overcome career obstacles to get to your present position, you’ll understand that having someone who serves as more than just a supporter; actively works to open doors and create opportunities for you is a big gift. Career sponsors offer invaluable guidance, mentorship, and connections that can greatly impact your professional trajectory. Having a career sponsor by your side is like having a powerful ally who can assist you in navigating career challenges, overcoming obstacles, and reaching new heights. For instance, they can introduce you to influential individuals in your field or endorse you for high-profile projects. Just like me, a lot of women are only recently discovering that having a career sponsor plays a significant role in enhancing one’s professional growth and increasing one’s chances of success.
