(1/2) Mr. Murty's comment on 70+ hours/week is actually preposterous, in Infosys's context - 80-90% of Infosys's workforce is based in India (approximate data gathered from Wikipedia/ChatGPT/SearchEngines). Mr. Murty had commented that Indians' productivity is amongst the lowest in the world. So how is Infosys still such a mammoth revenue generator in the market? Well, because of the low-cost of it's projects which is because of the extremely low-cost (read as : salaries) associated with it's Indian workforce. LOW COST is INFOSYS's USP, AFAIK. If all it's employees were to hypothetically upscale their productivity by working 70+ hours/week, the projects' costs would rise exponentially (assuming the company wouldn't encourage attrition), and Infosys would start losing out to competition. Taking a cue from this post some thoughts come to my mind .. - If IT employees are underpaid , they need to form a Union / Association to negotiate better packages .. Collective bargaining is the most potent strategy and duly recognised by law .. ( Ref.. Industrial Disputes Act and Trade Unions Act ) I don't think they have done it possibly with the presumption that they are not covered under the definition of "Workmen " .. They may explore it with some knowledgeable legal experts .. We can organise a session if some of them are keen and some experts are keen to guide .. - To my mind , IT companies are registered under the "Shops and Establishment Act " Possibly provisions under the "Factories Act " better protect them .. This Act presupposes some manufacturing process which implies .. Input - processing - output .. In many IT companies , data is fed ( input) , processed and some output generated.. Manufacturing does not imply " physical manufacturing" .. ( There may be case laws ) .. So can they be covered under the provisions of the "Factories Act" ? What I know for sure is that the Act does not permit a 70 hour week .. If that happens, there are limitations and provision of overtime has been provided for separately.. Pl do ponder over the points .. It may have some merit for those affected Best wishes....

The Entry level Salaries offered by Infosys/WIPRO/TCS in 2013 was ~3Lakhs. The Entry level Salary in 2024 is: around 3.5-4 Lakhs. The country's economy has grown. The inflation every year has risen. The #MarketCap of these IT companies has exponentially risen. Infosys stock price in 2013 was (429) and is (1,468) today ! -- Needless to say, there's a lot of good work done by these IT companies by employing large youth in Tier 2/3 colleges. But the income distribution is extremely unsymmetrical. Today, I share back the additional profits with my employees. My elder siblings started their career in these firms and they vouch for the absolute lack of growth in these orgs. There are few solutions out there. One of them is certainly Global Tech Initiative.org fellowship not just for you, but to also save India and Indians to come out of this trap. If you are working in such IT companies, you have only 3 options left- 1. Leave (aka unemployed) 2. Moonlight (illegal in many places) 3. Up skill ruthlessly to move out! Conclusion: If you don't look out for yourself. Doesn't take rocket science to conclude that your survival would be hard in coming years!

Two of the biggest IT companies of India, TCS and Infosys announced their Q3 results. While there will be detailed commentary on the financial performance, I am left with the following two thoughts: 1. Both companies announce record large deals every quarter, almost like they are in a competition to beat this number. However, it does not reflect / translate into their revenues. I am aware that the deals take time to materialise. But the deals announced earlier should materialise by now, right? For the third time (second time?), Infosys has reduced the guidance levels for its revenue. So, I fail to understand the significance of these announcements. Shouldn't the companies also give a timeline for revenue recognition from these large deals? At least with some probability and confidence. 2. Both companies have had a reduction in their headcount. Not hiring, but the headcount working in the organisations right now. I see it as another signal that the near-future outlook is not so positive. I hope the hiring numbers pick up and that the hirings made are actually honored in time. All in all, things do not look that great if you are graduating this year! Imagine if all 3.4 Lakhs employees of Infosys follow the advice of their founder and settle down abroad- there won't be a company called Infosys left! Quoting him from his recent speech during convocation ceremony held at Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Prayagraj. "Some of you will settle down abroad. Your duty is to become a model, productive and respected citizen of your country. That will raise the image of your mother country, India. In fact I believe that more percentage of competent and value based Indians should go abroad, succeed in their vocation, become model citizens of their adopted country, gain respect from the fellow residence of that society and enhance the image of India!!" Seriously? In the year 2024 also you are dy*ng to gain respect of other countries/societies? I fought this distorted mentality all through my career. I always told my fellow colleagues that they are no lesser than any engineer on the other side of the ocean. At Edurigo my clear guidance to my team is that we are developing an LXP which is top notch amongst all the similar software available across the globe! And we are highly successful is doing so. We have replaced or won deals against some of the well known US based LXPs. You become an engineer to solve problems in your country. It's fine to visit for sometime and learn about other cultures but the purpose should definitely not to "GAIN RESPECT". India’s top two #IT services companies, Tata Consultancy Services (#TCS) and #Infosys, have witnessed a decline in the count of staff aged 30 years or less, over the past two years. Mint's analysis shows the share of young workers in TCS's workforce has fallen from 59% in FY22 to 50.3% in FY24. For Infosys, that's a drop from 60% to 55% over the same period.
