Boundary Dam 3 (BD3) in Saskatchewan, Canada has now captured and safely stored over 6 million tonnes of CO2 since it started operating in 2014. The world's first commercial CCS project on a coal-fired plant - BD3 has now captured and safely stored more than six million tonnes of CO2 since it began operation in 2014. This is equivalent to taking more than one million cars off the road for a year - a significant reduction of greenhouse gas emissions that would have otherwise entered the atmosphere. According to SaskPower's Q2 update (link below) BD3 also just completed its strongest 12-month period to date, capturing 882,273 tonnes of CO2 between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2024. This performance demonstrates the real-world application of CCS to provide substantial GHG reductions in the power generation and other industrial sectors. As a first-of-a-kind facility, BD3 continues to provide valuable experience and lessons that we are now actively applying to the next generation of CCS projects under development in Canada and around the world.
