📣 Particularly proud to present this crucial whitepaper: ‘Building a Culture of Cyber Resilience in Manufacturing.’ This work is a collaborative effort 🤝 with Filipe Beato, Giulia Moschetta, and the dedicated members of the World Economic Forum’s Cyber Resilience in Manufacturing initiative. Cybersecurity attacks have unfortunately become a widespread issue. The manufacturing sector, in particular, has emerged as a prime target, largely due to its rapid transition from isolated systems to a hyperconnected environment, coupled with its reliance on a vast network of suppliers, vendors, and partners. Consider these alarming statistics: 1️⃣ For three consecutive years, the manufacturing sector has been the most targeted by cyberattacks, accounting for 25.7% of all attacks. A staggering 71% of these attacks involve ransomware. 2️⃣ The financial impact of cybercrime is escalating, with average cost of a data breach already at $4.7 million, and projections that the global impact could reach an astonishing $10.5 trillion by 2025 - more than twice the GDP of Japan. 3️⃣ The systemic nature of these attacks is evident, as 41% of organizations that suffered significant damage from a cyberattack reported that the breach originated from a third party. This is why this playbook, meticulously crafted by a team of industry leaders for their peers, is an invaluable resource for anyone in the manufacturing and supply chain sector. It highlights the top five challenges inhibiting the adoption of a cyber-resilient culture and offers three simple yet powerful guiding principles to weave cyber resilience into the fabric of a manufacturing organization. These principles are further distilled into 12 strategies and illustrated by 17 real-world case studies. The playbook also presents 24 critical questions that leaders can use to strengthen their approach to cyber resilience. From my personal journey grappling with these challenges as a supply chain leader, I’ve learned that adopting a ‘playing to win’ mindset is pivotal.
