The systemic intimidation and criminalization of Black men in America is an affront to humanity. How can we, as a global society, turn a blind eye to the injustices endured by Black communities in the United States while advocating fervently against injustices abroad? This selective justice is, in itself, a form of profound injustice. It is time for a collective introspection. How do we reconcile our advocacy for human rights overseas with our silence on the racial injustices happening within America's borders? The plight of Black Americans, enduring discrimination, violence, and systemic bias, demands our immediate attention and action. By ignoring the racial injustices at home while speaking out against those elsewhere, we perpetuate a cycle of hypocrisy and neglect. True justice requires us to confront and dismantle all forms of oppression, regardless of where they occur. We must champion equality and justice universally, ensuring that our voices are as loud in defense of Black lives in America as they are for others across the globe. All lives hold value, but our organization champions the Black community's fight for respect and dignity. We speak out frankly against forces hindering Black progress, regardless of political correctness. Facts show harmful policies and actions have negatively impacted Black lives. This includes organizations that disproportionately affect Black communities with practices that some consider genocidal. Planned Parenthood's practices have significantly reduced the Black population. A stronger Black population could have a greater economic and political impact. Today, we commemorate #Juneteenth, a day of freedom and reflection. It's a celebration of resilience, liberty, and the continuous journey toward equality. On this day where we honor the right to freedom, it’s important to acknowledge the historical disparities that have hindered Black homeownership and to commit to dismantling systemic barriers. Access to safe, affordable housing is a fundamental right that too many are still denied. Whether it's advocating for policy changes, supporting affordable housing projects, or educating ourselves and others about the history and impact of housing discrimination, every action counts. Working together, we can create a more equitable future for all.

Here are pivotal insights from the introduction and the first two chapters: 1️⃣ **Challenging Denial**: The introduction confronts common assertions that deny or underplay black oppression. 📘 **Reflecting on 'Denying Black Oppression' - Part 3 of 'Why Does Everything Have to Be About Race?' by Keith Boykin** 📘 I've just concluded Part 3 of Keith Boykin’s thought-provoking book, and the themes presented have deeply resonated with me, both intellectually and emotionally: 1️⃣ **Weaponizing Racial Differences:** It’s disheartening to see how racial differences are manipulated politically and socially. As a historian and an outward mindset facilitator, I find the misuse of these differences not only morally reprehensible but also socially corrosive. 🌐 2️⃣ **Redefining Patriotism (Chapter 14):** Boykin challenges the conventional views on patriotism. Acts like kneeling during the national anthem are argued to represent the very freedoms America stands for, rather than being unpatriotic. This perspective urges us to rethink what it means to truly love and critique our country. 🇺🇸 3️⃣ **The Case for Reparations (Chapter 15):** With less than 18% of white Americans supporting reparations for Black Americans, Boykin emphasizes the necessity of reparations for healing and establishing a foundation for real equality, drawing on historical precedents. 💰 These chapters have educated me, challenged my perspectives, and motivated me to advocate more vigorously for racial justice. Our legal system should serve as a beacon of justice, but for far too long, it has been a tool of oppression, particularly against Black communities. It’s time to reclaim our power and demand a system that reflects the dignity and rights of every Black person in this country. We must push for policies that ensure fairness and equality in the courts, end discriminatory practices, and hold those in power accountable. But change doesn’t just come from the top—it starts with us. As everyday people, we can empower our communities by educating ourselves and others about our rights, supporting Black-led legal initiatives, and showing up for those who have been unjustly targeted. We can advocate for reform, mentor our youth, and use our voices to call out injustice wherever we see it. As the black community, it's crucial to reflect on how we can learn and adapt from various perspectives. The traditional approach of turning a blind eye to injustices needs reevaluation. Taking a stand against oppression, like the Most High did, is essential for progress. When initiatives meant to benefit the black community face hurdles in court, it's time for proactive measures. Emulating the strategic actions of others can amplify our voices. Redirecting resources towards legal representation can challenge systemic injustices effectively. Investing in legal action, rather than passive contributions, can pave the way for impactful change. It's time to shift from complacency to action, ensuring our community's needs are not overlooked. Happy #Juneteenth today! As #MLK said, “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” and Juneteenth reminds us how justice does not move at the pace of our highest ideals. Juneteenth marks this day in 1865 when slaves in Texas were freed by Union soldiers, despite President Lincoln signing the Emancipation Proclaimation act over 2.5 years earlier. These Texan slaves in 1863-1865 were free on paper, but not in practice. Frankly they likely had no idea, no hope of such a life after suffering for over a century, robbed from their homeland and brought to this country as property to white slave owners. Arguably freedom on paper for black people in the United States still did not come until June 9, 1868 when the 14th amendment established enforcing citizenship rights to all people born in the US. Today in 2024 United States the freedoms of black Americans are constantly at risk due to backtracking of these monumental laws through Supreme Court rulings in the Reformation period, Jim Crow Era policies, and the systematic injustice of racist policing, policy, and culture that has been highlighted in the Civil Rights movement and more recently the Black Lives Matter movement. We as Americans have all agreed-on paper at least- for over a century that #equalityandjusticeforall matters. From my experience as an #underrepresentedfounder and as a #LBGTQ #womaninSTEM, I reflect today on the significant value of freedom for my black compatriots as well as myself, both on paper and in cultural practices. With the privilege of the freedoms afforded to me as a white, educated, upper middle class able person, I lead my new business CArtLab Solutions following Angela Davis’ sage advice: "act as if it were possible to radically transform the world. And you have to do it all the time." Tomorrow, back to trying to transform R&D radically by bringing equitable values! In the meantime, please reach out if you are on a similar mission ☮️⚖️

Ferguson, considered perhaps the worst Supreme Court ruling in U.S. history, sanctioned the existence of H.B.C.U.s and other Black-serving organizations. If institutions like Howard or the Fearless Fund cannot work to explicitly assist the descendants of slavery, who still today remain at the bottom of nearly every indicator of success and well-being, then we have decided as a nation that there is nothing we should do to help Black Americans achieve equality and that we will remain a caste society. What we are witnessing, once again, is the alignment of white power against racial justice and redress. As history has shown, maintaining racial inequality requires constant repression and is therefore antithetical to democracy. Today the National Black Women’s Justice Institute celebrates the emancipation of Black people in the United States. Without a doubt, we are our ancestors’ wildest dreams. But the work is not done. We must continue our struggle for liberation by dismantling the social, political, and economic constraints that deny us access to safety and wellbeing. The National Black Women’s Justice Institute is steadfast in our commitment to the liberation of Black people in the United States, especially Black women and girls who are directly impacted by the criminal and juvenile legal systems. The systemic criminalization and punishment of Black women and girls is not a recent phenomenon. Policing and incarceration have been used as tools to marginalize and harm us dating back to Emancipation. For as long as the carceral system has existed in the United States, Black women and girls have been subjected to state violence as a way to exert dominance over us and control our bodies, our sexuality, and limit our opportunities to achieve economic independence and wealth. We must continue our work to dismantle this racist and patriarchal system, and build, in its place, pathways to opportunity and healing so that directly impacted Black women and girls can live out their wildest dreams. At the National Black Women's Justice Institute, we envision a society that respects, values, and honors the humanity of Black women and girls, takes accountability for the harm it has inflicted, and recognizes that real justice is healing.
