As part of Excelsior University's celebration of Second Chance Month, yesterday the Center for Social Justice and the Civic Engagement Rope Team had the privilege of hosting Trent Griffin-Braaf, who shared his powerful journey with us in his keynote: 'From Felon to Forbes'. Below are a few highlights of his paradigm-shifting presentation: - The value of family and intentional connection. - The importance of focusing on our health and wellness, regardless of our circumstances. - The relevance of focusing on our personal and professional development. - The power of becoming a forever learner, to learn as much as possible in all situations. - Nothing lasts forever, so put your best step forward every day and focus on learning and preparing for next steps. - Never stop looking for opportunities and pivot as needed. - Remember that an arrow needs to be pulled back before it goes forward. - Focus on identifying needs and pursuing service, leadership, and workforce development opportunities. - Find ways of helping others identify and pursue their goals. - The power of empathy as part of a successful organization and of helping others to do better. - The importance of community engagement and of giving back. I want to express my gratitude to Kyle Anderson and Suna Solutions for hosting an incredible workshop on personal branding! The insights shared were truly invaluable! Here are a couple of my key takeaways: 1. Building and fostering meaningful connections: Networking isn't just about collecting contacts; it's about building genuine relationships that can help us grow personally and professionally. 2. Cultivating curiosity and embracing lifelong learning: By staying curious and embracing diverse experiences, we are able to continuously acquire new skills, adapt to changing environments, and clarify career goals and aspirations.  3. Being intentional and authentic: By aligning our actions with our goals and values, we can develop genuine relationships, establish ourselves as reliable and trustworthy professionals, and pursue opportunities that truly resonate with us. Investing in your employees and recognizing them for their impact is important and paramount for a good work culture.

What do you want to celebrate? 🎉 Another week is gone, and with that the first month of the year, have you taken the time to celebrate yourself and your wins, big or small? Here are two ways you can acknowledge your efforts and truly recognize the significant milestones you've achieved without it feeling like a brag:     1️⃣ Reflect & share the journey   Pause and look at how far you've come. Recognize the dedication, resilience, and countless hours of hard work that went into anything that you've set your mind to. Acknowledge and share what you've done so far, the highs and lows. When you see the complete picture, instead of the achievements, you put everything in perspective.       2️⃣ Seek an external point of view   While working hard, it's easy to lose sight of what we've accomplished, we tend to see all the things that still need to be done. Ask your peers, mentors, or coach - they can provide an objective perspective on your achievements. Share your accomplishments with them and ask for honest feedback. Can they see the value and the impact of what you've done?      Celebrating your accomplishments doesn't mean boasting or seeking validation, but recognizing and acknowledging your hard work, building self-confidence, and embracing your growth.       So, pause, reflect, and recognize the remarkable things you've recently accomplished, no matter how big or small.     💜 Share them below and let's celebrate you together!
