So please again explain how immigration/international students hurt the economy.
Brutal. Honest. Brutally honest. The government’s immigration “policies” are nothing short of Nigel Farage’s hallucinations. Immigrants are helping make Britain work. From universities and healthcare to technology startups and scientific research, skilled migrants are empowering Britain’s core strengths. The government, on the other hand, is blaming immigration for its failure to fix the underlying crises that make Britain need foreign talent. The populist right of the Conservatives talks about axing the Graduate Visa but offers no solutions to the funding crisis of British universities. They also complain NHS’s need for migrant doctors even though the shortage of health workers can’t be met by domestic skills supply. They don’t want to pay care workers much but complain that many migrants come here to do the work. Immigrants are not taking advantage of Britain — they come because the country needs them. Being brutally honest about this should be the starting point of the debate.

The #UKGovernment is implementing these measures to enhance security and curb the misuse of this vital document. As the government has already commenced work on replacing #immigration documents by 2025, you surely wouldn’t want to miss the details of this update. Knowing the attitudes towards immigrants allows us to develop inclusive policies in which we all benefit. I highly recommend reading the following article!!
Research on attitudes toward immigration and immigrants has flourished for decades, focusing primarily on the explanation of hostile views. The dependent variable, in contrast, has received rather scant attention: a monolithic attitude construct is widely taken for granted. As we argue in a paper just published in the Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, the dimensional structure of attitudes regarding international migration and migrants is more nuanced and complex than generally assumed. In our data, collected in Spain in 2020, perceived impacts and preferred policies, on one hand, are differentiated clearly from affect toward people of foreign origin, on the other. The upshot of our analysis is that accrued knowledge on predictors cannot be extrapolated across attitude facets: we observe facet-specific predictor profiles. In short, the State-of-the-Art is in for an audit. Have a look at the paper (open access): https://lnkd.in/d4WbXq3u

A new book by Dmitri Alperovitch recommends liberalizing U.S. immigration policy to admit more foreign-born scientists and engineers as part of a strategy to prepare for China’s rising power and compete with Chinese companies. “Alperovitch praises the ability of U.S. universities to attract talent from around the world. However, he understands the current U.S. immigration system often does not retain that talent due to an insufficient number of H-1B visas and employment-based green cards.” #immigration #greencards #h1bvisa #h1b
