New funding for innovation in Satcomms ⤵️ The UK Space Agency Connectivity in Low-Earth Orbit (C-LEO) programme will provide up to £160 million of funding over the next 4 years to UK companies and researchers to develop innovative satellite communications technology. Satellite communication is a vital technology and the commercial market is undergoing fundamental market evolution. The programme will ensure that the UK space sector is able to compete in the rapidly growing global market of low-Earth orbit (LEO) constellations. Each contender aims to deliver faster, more secure, and highly resilient transmissions, contributing to the evolution of connectivity between Earth and space. Exciting news! Atheras Analytics has been selected by European Space Agency - ESA to develop ground segment software for NGSO satellite constellation validation! Atheras Analytics has been awarded a 12-month contract to supply AI-based technology to assess ground network designs for governmental LEO and MEO constellations by the European Space Agency (ESA). We will develop a bespoke Ground Segment Dimensioning Tool for constellations consisting of one or more satellite networks in potentially different orbits with inter-satellite link (ISL) capabilities. Pantelis-Daniel Arapoglou, Telecommunications System Engineer, European Space Agency - ESA, commented saying, “Atheras Analytics’ technology was selected due to its ability to ensure a highly consistent service across satellite networks.” James Youdale, President, Atheras Analytics SAS said, “The reliability of satellite connectivity is integral to constellation success. 🌠 Amazing News - with our partner, Marble Imaging we've signed a new contract with European Space Agency - ESA! 🌠 Marble Imaging, as the prime contractor of a consortium with Scanway S.A., has signed a contract with the European Space Agency, in the frame of the #InCubed program - managed by the ESA Φ-lab Invest Office, for the development of a very-high-resolution (VHR) optical payload. The payload comprises a sub-meter visible, near-infrared imager and a high-resolution, short-wave infrared imager. The optical payload will fly on the first Marble satellite, planned to be launched in the first quarter of 2026 and the subsequent Marble constellation. The two-year project funded by the ESA InCubed program covers the complete development, integration and commissioning of the payload for the first Marble satellite. For sure the existing lever of weighting factor in geo return should be revisited and smarterly used in order to reopen competition to the #European champions rather than to some national anchored actors. But it is an old story. Competition today is not harsher than after the fall of USRR when lot of excellent products and services were on sales. The matter is neither competition with US NewSpace but with #SpaceX monopoly. The matter is that Elon Musk is the only one that has understood the benefits of consolidation along the whole value chain, down to B2C markets. Musk is not raising funds and making money with rocket engines, nor launchers, neither satellites but with Internet by satellites. EU, ESA and Member States should reflect on that and better support the downstream applications that can put back Europe on the top of global market. It is not too late for better, sovereign protection, monetisation and business of #Galileo, #Copernicus, #Iris and for leveraging on #GreenDeal and #EnergyTransition for example. In the meantime, launching competitors of Starlink could be the sake of #Ariane and #Vega. #Europe #Space #SustainableWorld
