As my chapter at Firstup draws to a close, I've spent some time reflecting on what I've learned/had reinforced over the past three years. Among the key takeaways: - The absolute importance of a growth mindset for adaptability, resilience and peak performance - Among people, process and technology, it's always the people that come first - and make all the rest of it worth doing - When you don't always believe in yourself, believe in the self you see reflected in others; sometimes the truth is easier to see through the eyes of those around you - You can love your job AND it can be time to move on to something new I'll be forever grateful to my amazing colleagues at Firstup (far too many to tag!). Now, time to find that next great opportunity to grow and challenge myself to be better today than I was yesterday, and better tomorrow than I am today. Back on mute. Results day here in Scotland today, and quite rightly an opportunity to rethink the traditional path from school to chosen careers. As a very proud mum today with my daughter's Higher results, we had quite a deep and meaningful conversation as she scrutinised herself and why one result wasn't an even higher grade. And so we spoke about the difference between education and the workplace. Recently I've been having conversation with some leaders I support about the importance in also considering the WHO, HOW and not just the WHAT of performance - consider DQ (decency quotient), consider engagement, consider passion, aspiration and how we treat one another as well as results. Aren't these all of the things that we want in a great employee? With exams and education, where is this considered in results? Answer..it isn't. We are conditioned through school to focus purely on getting that end result. But as an employer, and as someone who didn't follow a traditional path to my chosen career, all of these attributes are absolutely vital. So, if your young person didn't get the results they hoped for today, please take the time to ensure they know there is always an alternate route and developing interpersonal skills and following passions will prove even more beneficial in your future than you even realise. #NoWrongPath

3 lessons I learned in the year 2023. 1. Facing my greatest fear: This is the sixth month I resigned from my previous job. The fear of "what if" has been holding me down for a very long time, but I was able to make that decision this year, which has made me a better version of myself. 2. Never walk alone. There are times you think you can do it all alone. I realized that to achieve my career-set goals, I need to start talking to people who can walk me through them. 3. Learning new skills: As a growth and development enthusiast, I've learned some new skills that have made me learn, and relearn in my career. It was a great journey, full of great experiences, where I met new people, made new friends, learned a lot, made mistakes, made successes, and much more.
