South Africa's Department of Mineral Resources and Energy will host a series of public engagement sessions to unpack the draft Integrated Resource Plan (IRP2023) that has been published for public comments. The timeline and methodolgy set for public comment are ridiculous. A clear indication that government wants the grossly flawed IRP 2023 passed before the national election in May. #southafrica #energyplanning #energyprocurement #energycrisis #leadershipcrisis https://lnkd.in/gEeBtZYB

A monumental achievement in addressing the pressing challenges faced in Pakistan's Power Sector. The National Electricity Plan 2023-27 (NE-Plan) was recently approved by the Government of Pakistan to focus on achieving sustainability in the power sector. The NE-Plan provides the framework for implementation of the National Electricity Policy 2021 under the umbrella of six overarching objectives including: 1️⃣ Diversification 2️⃣ Resilience and Accessibility 3️⃣ Self-sufficiency 4️⃣ Affordability 5️⃣ Financial Viability 6️⃣ Sustainability In addition, there is a comprehensive Action Plan to address twenty priority areas including investments, subsidies, fiscal incentives, regional integration, digitalization, tariff design, climate change mitigation, governance, research & development, and capacity building. The Plan 2023 includes targets to have a share of 40 percent from renewables (including hydropower) by 2025 and 60 percent by 2030. Take a look at the National Electricity Plan 2023-27 and share with us your thoughts about it!

ENTSO-E President, Zbyněk Boldiš joined the 5th Clean Transition Dialogue on the European Green Deal Infrastructure yesterday with European Commission's Executive Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič. Zbyněk emphasised that a focus on electricity grids should remain a priority in the next mandate in order to deliver the energy transition and EU decarbonisation targets by 2030 and 2050. ENTSO-E have identified three areas of action needed for accelerating the development of infrastructure development needed for the European Energy transition: 🏗️ Strengthening European Supply-Chains for grid infrastructure 💶 Financing the grid infrastructure scale-up ⚖️ Regulatory frameworks and decision making to facilitate infrastructure delivery We look forward to contributing to the development of the framework needed for electricity grids to support the energy transition in Europe.

I have been lucky enough to have worked on USEA's USAID South Asian programs for 19 years. I remember my first trip to the region - Hyderabad, India. We had 20 executives together from the distribution utilities of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. Their organizations were part of our "South Asia Distribution Utilities Partnership." For three days, they talked about their challenges in system losses (including "non-technical", aka theft) and financial struggles (e.g., circular debt), and shared strategies for how to improve their companies. No one had a silver bullet to fix their hurdles, but that wasn't really the point. Before EUPP's partnership programs with USAID, there was no platform for these folks to meet. They didn't attend global conferences. There were no webinars or social media "groups". This was the first time the technical staff and leadership of the discoms got to sit around the table with counterparts from their neighboring countries and share their stories. They found out they were all in the same boat. They were all struggling with the same struggles. Some of them had some "fixes" that they shared that others would replicate - and that was amazing. But more importantly, they made connections with their peers and now were in the trenches together. They walked away feeling less alone in their struggles and had built friendships that they could rely on to help them face the enormous barriers to progress they were facing back home. A lot has changed by then. The utilities have matured and so have their challenges, although losses and finance are still key topics. The utility representatives at these events are no longer all male. And they do now attend global conferences and numerous online learning events. But what hasn't changed is the dedication of these individuals.
#DYK United States Energy Association ’s programs, alongside USAID, have been actively engaged in #energysector reforms in South Asia since 1996? Over the past 30+ years, #EUPP has conducted training, technical assistance, and peer-to-peer partnerships in the region that have improved institutional knowledge, led to upgraded utility performance, and generated tremendous advances in energy access and energy security. Thank you to all government ministries, regulators, utilities, development sector partners, financial institutions, private sector, not-for-profit, and educational institutions on this journey. With support from USAID, this week NARUC is partnering with OOCUR: Organization of Caribbean Utility Regulators on a regional regulatory forum covering the topics of #renewableenergy integration, reserve requirements, and resiliency regulation. In the Caribbean, power outages caused by major weather events are a frequent occurrence. As weather events become more severe with climate change, nationwide power grid failures lasting days, weeks, or even months have devastating health, social, and economic consequences. During the forum, regulators from the Caribbean and the United States will share recent developments in their respective countries and exchange best practices and lessons learned on how to boost energy resilience, increase the use of renewable energy resources for power generation, and diversify the energy mix to achieve climate goals. #caribbean #energysector #energyregulation #knowledgesharing

On November 27, our President Terry Hubbard, participated in a panel at the WaterPower Canada | Hydroélectricité Canada Week Conference in Ottawa. The panel discussed how to achieve Canada’s net zero electricity targets, recognizing the role the waterpower industry can play in advancing these commitments. In an afternoon session, we delivered a presentation on regulatory integration and efficiency in impact assessment processes.
