In honor of Juneteenth, our founder Wemimo Abbey, and Operation HOPE Chairman John Hope Bryant joined Romaine Bostick, CFA and Scarlet Fu on Bloomberg Markets: The Close to talk about the ripple effects financial literacy can have within our communities and the nation as a whole. "This is a moment in history that harks back to after the Civil War when Abraham Lincoln created the Free Man's Bank to teach freed slaves about money before he was killed. So most people never even learned financial literacy basics. Today, financial literacy is a national epidemic, but it hits people on the lower end of the financial spectrum harder." "In my opinion, this national security issue. We have military men and women, 55% of which do not have adequate financial literacy and when we think about the 2008 financial crisis, a lot of people said they were not financially literate. At Esusu, one of the biggest demands we see is how can we try as much as possible to level the playing field and give people the financial knowledge they need to live their financial best."
