Wishing you a day of reflection and renewal. “…Juneteenth, the day we celebrate the end of slavery, the day we memorialize those who offered us hope for the future and the day when we renew our commitment to the struggle for freedom.” – Angela Davis | Author & Political Activist

Absolutely and be willing to have these conversations with children in general. I personally suggest "Something Happend in Our Town" on racial injustice from 2 families perspectives. Librarians and Teachers include displays on "Tough Topics", "Decolonizing Thanksgiving", diverse representation all year round and not just on featured months like "Black history is U.S. History". There are HUGE gaps in children's books still and needs to be filled despite the rise of ongoing book bans throughout the nation. What books do you recommend and how do you help fill the gap?
We need more books for children that use words like justice, ally, freedom, advocate, colonialism, appropriation and reconciliation ✊🏽

Rev. Wylie Hughes and I discuss: - The Black-Jewish Alliance - what happened to it and how to revive it? - Public Discourse - can civil conversation return to civic life? - The illiberal Left - can we revive liberalism among progressives? The answers - only when we pull apart the Gordian knot of White Supremacy, American misogyny and patriarchy, and anti-Indigenous genocide, for a start. https://lnkd.in/engUqNiW

Driving Nonprofit Success through Philanthropic Support, Organizational Development, and Board Empowerment
Sharing this insightful article by Dr. Jemar Tisby
Happy Juneteenth! My friend and "America's Government Teacher", Sharon McMahon generously asked me to write this article as a guest post on her new Substack, The Preamble. I'm thrilled to geek out about history and talk about the tension between freedom and unfreedom. May the spirit of justice drive our efforts on Juneteenth and beyond! #Juneteenth #Footnotes #ThePreamble https://loom.ly/-Gr4RuA

ANSWER: YES! It was the very first question we answered as detailed in the Frequently Asked Questions located at https://lnkd.in/e3Nh_25j If you are really thinking of remaining silent and not coming out publicly in support of this historic Peace proposal, then please ask yourself: WHERE IS YOUR DIGNITY?

When someone chooses to expose a misuse of power and stand for what is right, they initiate the reshaping of the culture to come. Throughout history, courageous voices were compelling enough to motivate government to enact legislation to defend the vulnerable. Their sacrifices and unwavering determination modeled a way of life that challenged the masses to confront their biases and bigotry. A clarion call persists as our world continues to experience an epidemic of prejudice, mistrust, and injustice. Not everyone has the position or platform to influence the laws of the land from the highest courts; but every one of us has the power of influence to impact the lives of those around us just by doing what is right. Through simple acts of kindness, we can be voices of everyday justice as we choose to use our power for good. Download for free: https://lnkd.in/eg-UaNMV

Dismantling institutions from our history that have hurt our fellow human being must be our highest priority. The hand of Justice is never even if it tips towards one peoples and rips right through another. We must rewrite what Justice means by believing what it can and must look like. Not just for the privileged and their institutions of influence but for all those who struggle and whose greatest crime is simply being the most vulnerable in a system that preys on the forgotten and the forlorn. Justice mustn’t tower with great force for some people and teeter in shrinking totality and tonelessness when needed for another. Justice in America and this City cannot continue to stand on it’s pernicious pier of power which only serves to give an unforgiving armed authority to those who seek to be beyond reproach. Justice must resist the temptress of terror and give refuge to the repressed. It is imperative that we ask the hard questions that will lead to the much more difficult solutions our imperiled Nation and City need. For I believe that: “Peace cannot exist without justice, justice cannot exist without fairness, fairness cannot exist without development, development cannot exist without democracy, democracy cannot exist without respect for the identity of worth of cultures and peoples.” — Rigoberta Menchu #justice #philadelphia #defender #reformer #raceinamerica #timeforchange #philosophy #writer #writing
