When briefs are fully breathable, have inner leak guards, have NO plastic acquisition distribution layer, and are made of soft materials for comfort, residents have more dignity, better clinical outcomes can be achieved, better financial outcomes are possible, and some of the caregiver staffing issues can be reduced. How do nursing home staffing levels relate to the health outcomes of residents with dementia? According to a recent NIA-funded study, nursing home residents with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia can benefit from increased nursing home staff, but this measure alone did not eliminate differences in health outcomes when comparing homes with a high and low number of residents. After collecting data on staffing and health outcomes from 15,790 nursing homes across the country, NIA-funded researchers emphasize the importance of improving care quality through increased staffing, reduced staff turnover, specialized training, and better facility design.
