📣 Eurogas co-organised a second workshop with the European Commission on the #UnionDatabase last week in collaboration with other associations in the Prime Movers Group on guarantees of origin. 🔦 This initiative aims to enhance the European market for #renewable and #lowcarbon energy and ensure cross-border transferability. During these sessions, the group has developed recommendations for bio-LNG liquefaction and to enable the extra-EU imports of biomethane and biomethane-based fuels. All organisations benefited from the open collaboration with DG ENER and look forward to continuing to move the conversation forward. OUR MARKET OPPORTUNITIES IN AUSTRIA Austria is one of the pioneer markets for biogas, which has experienced a slight increase in biogas and biomethane production in recent years. The European Biogas Association estimated the Austrian green gas production in 2022 to be 1,487 GWh of biogas and 136 GWh of biomethane. Austria anticipates a shift from biogas to biomethane with the Renewables Expansion Act (EAG) and a green gas quota for gas suppliers. However, these regulations still need to be implemented. BIOP aims to develop and invest in smart green gas solutions in Austria to lead the way towards green growth. RNG to Hydrogen Enables New Uses of RNG Under EPA Set Rule with Implications for LCFS, IRA and CORSIA; Questions Remain Life Cycle Associates reviewed EPA’s recently released set rule to assess impact on renewable natural gas (RNG) and hydrogen’s role in renewable diesel and SAF production. EPA is finalizing biogas regulatory reform provisions to allow for the use of biogas as a biointermediate and RNG as a feedstock to produce biogas-derived renewable fuels other than renewable CNG/LNG. Several critical inquiries persist, such as: - Is RNG considered a biointermediate? - Can RNG be utilized in the production of hydrogen and subsequently transformed into fuel? - How should the conversion of 1 MMBtu of RNG into 1 MMBtu of CNG, along with the associated process energy, be appropriately assessed in the context of RNG's contribution to renewable diesel or SAF production? ENGIE Global Energy Management & Sales leaps ahead in the Italian renewable energy field ! We have inked our very first Italian long-term upstream Biomethane Purchase Agreement (BPA) with Bagnod Azienda Agricola . The 8-year agreement is set to drive the growth of biomethane in Italy. Under this deal, we will secure a total of 240 GWh of biomethane generated from agricultural and zootechnical residues, marking an 80% reduction in GHG emissions. The biomethane will come complete with Renewable Gas Guarantees of Origin (RGGO), including Proofs of Sustainability and eligibility for the EU ETS offset mechanism. This milestone positions us as one of the first movers in the Italian biomethane sector. #Italy #RenewableEnergy #Biomethane #Gas #NaturalGas #withENGIE

A great way to make good use of resources
Have you heard about e-methane? This emerging renewable gas can be stored or used to replace fossil natural gas, offering an excellent solution for decarbonising hard-to-electrify sectors like heavy transport and maritime shipping. In this article, we explore what e-methane is, how it’s produced, and why Biogasclean A/S´s pioneering biological methanation technology is making it happen. If you’re curious, you can learn more in this article: https://lnkd.in/gz4W7HYy #CycleØ #RNG #efuels #CCU #PowertoGas

Renewable… gas? ♻️🔥 Many are familiar with Renewable Electricity, through solar, wind and other technologies. Renewable Gas is a similar concept, where gas created from renewable processes are eligible to create Renewable Gas Certificates that can be sold to those wanting to make renewable claims. It’s an excellent initiative designed to decarbonise our natural gas supply through creating an additional incentive for renewable gas generators. Whilst the Malabar Biomethane Injection plan is the only project registered, it’s an exciting and important development signalling a shift in the way we view “gas” currently as a fossil fuel - to a renewable fuel. Gas is critical to our future energy supply mix, particularly for industrial users, and more supply is critical to avoiding shortages from 2026 and onwards. Excited to see more projects registered under this program in the near future!
Announcing the first accredited gas project registered in GreenPower’s new renewable gas certification - the Malabar Biomethane Project operated by Jemena. In an Australian-first, the project is using biogas, produced from Sydney Water’s Malabar Wastewater Treatment Plant, and upgrading it to biomethane which is injected directly into the NSW gas distribution network. This initiative will support the decarbonisation of gas use by replacing fossil natural gas with low-emission renewable gas. Find out how you can benefit from participating in the certification by visiting the link below: https://lnkd.in/dsJUkCkS #renewablegas #biomethane #decarbonisation #greenpower
