At the Arctic Futures Symposium our Executive Director, Anu Fredrikson, moderated a panel discussion focused on bilateral and multilateral cooperation, the role of regions, and indigenous cooperation in the Arctic. - Today's discussion focused on how international Arctic cooperation has changed and the way different Arctic stakeholders - Arctic states, non-arctic states, and representatives of local and indigenous peoples - have reacted to the situation, said Fredrikson. During the panel session, the key role played by the Arctic Council as the most important Arctic institution was brought up, and the importance of being able to utilize the knowledge the Council produces. - As the largest global market and a big funder of Arctic research, the European Union impacts the Arctic, and bringing Arctic discussion to Brussels is of great significance, said Fredrikson.
