#TBT 📣 #CIVITASPORTIS showed how sustainable mobility can create healthy and accessible city-port environments and resolve potential conflicts between freight, passenger and non-motorised transport in the process. 🔵 The project designed, demonstrated, and evaluated innovative sustainable mobility measures in five European port cities: #Aberdeen, (UK), #Antwerp (Belgium), #Constanta (Romania), #Klaipeda (Lithuania), and #Trieste (Italy). The project also had a major international ‘follower’ in the port city of #Ningbo (China). 🔵 #EIP was involved in the project's #communication and #dissemination activities, mainly sharing the know-how gained in previous CIVITAS projects and creating #links and knowledge #exchange with the rest of active CIVITAS projects as well as providing #evidence of how the health component could be at the core of designing and implementing a walking/cycling campaign. Project managers Eglė Mordasaitė and Rugile Dunauskaite have pinpointed out 7 European cities which, in their opinion, stand out in terms of accessibility and could serve as examples for Lithuanian municipalities. The cities, located in Luxembourg, Poland, Finland, Latvia, Sweden, and France, were selected based on the 2013–2023 results of Access City Award. ✍ Article published by the Hungarian National URBACT Contact Point in its monthly Newsletter 📌 Participation of the Szabolcs 05 Regional Development Association of Municipalities in the URBACT network As a partner of the Beyond the Urban project, the Szabolcs 05 Regional Development Association of Municipalities has made and continues to make significant progress in promoting sustainable and safe transport. The aim of the project supported by the URBACT IV Program is for the participating 10 partners to improve mobility between the affected cities and surrounding settlements - by exploring and testing sustainable, accessible and integrated mobility solutions. Staff and ULG members of the Szabolcs 05 Local Government Area Development Association got to know many adaptable models at the transnational meetings. In Vic, Spain, it was presented, among other things, the means by which women's points of view can be taken into account during the development of urban transport, and the participants were able to learn about different methods with which they can strengthen social participation in their own city and region. One of the strengths of Tartu in Estonia is that it provides flexible transport options for the people living in the surrounding smaller settlements, thus ensuring equal access to city services. The cooperation continues with further cross-border exchanges of experience, the development of the local mobility action plan, and the preparation and implementation of pilot actions - building on the experiences of local organizations and professionals. Eurocities 2024 will take place in Cluj-Napoca in May. For the first time, the significant European event will be held in Eastern Europe and for the first time in a non-capital city. Eurocities is a large network of European cities founded in 1986, bringing together major cities in Europe under the auspices of the European Union. The main objective of Eurocities is to promote the exchange of knowledge and best practices among member cities, as well as to represent the interests of European cities at national and international levels. The network promotes cooperation among cities in the areas of innovation, environment, culture, social inclusion, economy, and other areas relevant to sustainable urban development. #Eurocities

📍 Mikkeli, Finland 🇫🇮 As I reflect on my work time in Mikkelin kaupunki - City of Mikkeli, a city renowned for its stunning landscapes and heartwarming inclusivity 🌍💚, I'm deeply grateful for the community's commitment to refugees and international residents. The compassion and dedication shown here are truly inspiring. 🌟 However, I see an opportunity for growth and enrichment in our approach. 🌱 For highly educated individuals and international students, transitioning from study to professional life in Finland can be challenging. 🎓➡️💼 I suggest we consider implementing more services to facilitate this transition, offering them avenues to integrate and contribute to Finnish society. 🤝📈 Additionally, I recommend enhancing our training programs with a focus on management, self-discipline, people skills, and DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging). 📘👥 Such training is crucial for our staff working directly with diverse groups, ensuring they're equipped to meet varying needs with empathy and understanding. 🤗💡 Each group we assist has its own unique story and requirements. In 2024, the Nordic-Baltic Mobility Programme for Public Administration has allocated around €220,000 to support 36 projects from Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Sweden. 🌍 Yesterday, on June 13th, we had a visit from the Migration Department of Helsinki's Economic Development Department to learn more about immigrants arrival, settlement, and integration into Estonian society. 🤝 The goal was to meet with key stakeholders in Tallinn and gain a better understanding of the settlement and integration processes of various immigrant groups. The following topics were discussed: • Migration and integration in Tallinn's strategy • Strategic objectives related to migration and integration • How are activities related to migration and integration strategically planned? • How is research and external expertise used in planning and review? • Collaboration on migration and integration with the national government • How is internal and external collaboration organized? • Activities for attracting talents to Tallinn • Approaches to attracting talents considering proximity to Russia 📅 The visit by the Migration Department was a reciprocal visit following the Estonian delegation's visit to Helsinki in April. #collaboration

"New policy analysis on interculturality for Melton (Australia) STRASBOURG, FRANCE 5 APRIL 2024 The Council of Europe’s Intercultural Cities (ICC) Programme provides assistance to public authorities willing to implement the intercultural integration approach in communities with culturally diverse populations. The members of the programme commit to reviewing their governance, policies, discourse and practices from an intercultural point of view. Composed of 83 indicators, the Intercultural Cities Index is the benchmarking tool that allows to assess where a city stands in relation to intercultural integration, where efforts should be focused in the future and which other cities can be a source of good practice in each of the policy areas monitored by the Index. The report analysing the results of Melton (Australia) was published in April 2024 and is based on data collected by the city in 2023. Melton is to be congratulated on the range and quality of the steps it has taken as an Intercultural City and the clarity of purpose and commitment in this. The framework of the Intercultural City will hopefully continue to serve the city well in realising its ambitions of equality, diversity, interaction and participation in particular with the forthcoming publication of its next Intercultural Plan. We hope that the suggestions made in this report will be a resource in achieving ongoing visible and tangible results as an Intercultural City.
