Who uses the most antibiotics? General practitioners, veterinarians, hospitals, … ? BELMAP 2023 has published an analysis of antimicrobial consumption (AMC) in both the veterinary and human medical sectors in Belgium, using a common metric (mg/kg). The findings reveal consistently higher usage in the human medical sector, alongside reductions in both the veterinary and human community sectors. However, there has been no reduction in AMC in hospitals. Take steps to prevent tularemia by wearing personal protective equipment when handling sick animals and considering post-exposure prophylaxis after high-risk exposures. Treatment options depend on signs: 1)if there is no respiratory discomfort, just give the cage rest, supportive care, everything will be absorbed with time 2) if mild discomfort is seen, use 18 G needle (no stab incision), aspirate/ suck all air, can milk out too, after removal, put drain in s/c and give pain killer 3) refractory cases need surgery for the tracheal repair with supportive care.

Kidney function is examined and evaluated based on the "9 Kidney Function Parameters" reagent disc's parameters. By observing the clinical manifestations of the animals and testing the B/C* parameter, veterinarians can correctly determine pre-renal and post-renal azotemia. Especially for felines, as the incidence of renal disease due to lack of drinking water is higher in felines than in other animals.
